we can’t defend set pieces so let’s try and turn defensive set pieces to our advantage. With the pace of Armstrong and Smyth leave them both up top for the break. If you leave two up your going take two or three opposition out the box as they won’t leave themselves one on one for the break and less people in box make it easier to defend. If you stick everyone back all oppo do is leave one person outside box pick up clearances. In all honesty what is Smyth going do at set piece aside from block given his size and as the clip shows Armstrong is just stood there. Leave them both up and try and turn oppo around. |

It’s been a huge fall but I don’t think it’s from a lack of effort from most of the squad. This season, I think the players have tried hard. Willock has maybe not but I think it’s the injury worry rather than a lack of effort. Maybe more psychological. We’d be clearly better off if we’d gone from Beale to Marti and not had the Critchley and Ainsworth disasters. We’d still be bottom half though because we just don’t have the quality…..and importantly players who play well consistently. For whatever reason, our players performances fluctuate massively. We can still stay up….weve got to believe it but yesterday is tough to take

Sorry to go on about this, but the problem with allocating is what happens when you loose possession when you're up the park. You're attacking which means you might be a long way from your allocated opponent when the ball is lost. Zonal just means that areas are covered when say one your backline has gone up top.
Basically you need to combine M2M and zonal, ie hybrid. Where we struggle at the moment is the switch over.
