We just know it's going to be Dykes up front to start. Dykes needs wingers or wing-backs who can provide pinpoint crosses to his tiny nut. But we don't have those. Ironically, I think Kakay was the best crosser from the right. Andersen has the capability, but if he plays central, there's no supply. So really it's pointless starting the Scotstralian rugby player.
We've all had fun suggesting variations on a false nine, without any of our so-called strikers, but it's not going to happen is it. However, when we beat PNE 2-0 away in December, this was the starting line-up:
Dykes
Willock Colback Dozzell Smyth
Field
Paal JCS Dunne Cannon
Smyth and Willock scored.
The real noticable omission from that starting line-up is Chair. Has Chair's non-stop running around but often to little effect actually hampered the team?? His crossing is not that great. Nevertheless, this game apart, Ilias has been an almost nailed-on starter under Cifuentes.
So I'm guessing Marti will go something like this to start, with Smyth and probably Armstrong featuring in the seconbd half:

Has the feel of our 2007 meeting with Cardiff, under John Gregory - also in late April, and also with us threatened by relegation. Walked to the ground from White City station with my (then) little lad, chatting to Neil (Lord) Kinnock, who was going to the game (though more of a Swansea fan). Hope the result is the same - a 1-0 win to us, which secured our Championship status.  I will be bringing my smudge set to the lower loft to dispel any unwanted spirits, General will be wearing his tea towel on his head and captain jack will be wearing his boxers back to front. Stan will be getting out of bed on the left side and 77 will continue to wave his fists at the clouds. It’s time to pull out all the stops, lads…… even the superstitious ones. Come on rangers, we are going to win this. OK, have printed out picture of Kinnock, all ready to leave On the basis that Kinnock was (nominally) Cardiff's 'celebrity' fan on the day, I'm pondering also printing out a picture of Mark Lawrenson, Preston's 'celebrity' fan... |
