England have just been 'pacing themselves' through the group stages, apparently. It's all part of a cunning plan 😅 Just saying 😅 They decided to wait until 94mins to turn up 🤣

What a difference it makes having a handful up front (matron!) Kane undroppable so back to normal Saturday no forward as he’s in midfield Probably deserves to keep his place. Right place, right time once again for the winner

Right place, right time once again for the winner if Bellingham don’t score worldie last kick he would not have been in right place to score as they would have been in changing room. For 90mins he contributed nothing.

Got away with that … Southgate needed to make changes earlier and the way the game ended just papered over the cracks!

Won't get away with it against them, they'll take England apart. Southgate seems addicted to playing as deeply and laterally as possible irrespective of who he has on the park. Ironically, that could suit us vs Swiss who play a more open, higher game than any of our opponents so far. He wants to be Mourinho during the glory years (ie Inter) but to pull that off you need fast transitions which so far have been thin on the ground. We're always taking an extra touch and that needs to stop.

Southgate has not adapted his tactics from day he started job, he has one way of play, that’s it. I mean it’s took 8 years for him to pick some players on performance not cos he likes them. Babies have wind that’s less stubborn

94 minutes of dross, 2 minutes of joy, another 28 minutes of dross.
Interesting to see that BBC poll of player ratings Eze is ranked fourth.

Dont disagree mate but my point is Germany iTaly etc dont have an abundacne of talent in reserve either. So disappointed with Italy yesterday. They have always been known through their history to be a hard to breakdown team ( defenders like barasi, maldini, costacurta, etc etc) along with A lethal attack……. They are so bloody poor now. Nothing like the Italy of old. Yea Italy were gash this year. Tbf have been in recent years (despite winning the last Euros lol). I am sure they have failed to even qualify for the last 2 World Cups?!

Surely that more a reflection of how crap the others were rather than how good he was? Tried a couple of nice runs and at least wanted to move forwards with the ball but his main contribution at emergency wing back seemed to be shirking challenges.

It has to be clear now, even to the wooden-headed maanger, that no matter how good he is at club football, Foden just doesn't seem to work for England.
I'd start the Switzerland game something like this:
Pickford
Walker Stones Shaw (he's gotta be fit by this point)
Rice Mainoo
Saka Bellingham Gordon
Palmer Toney

I'd like to see:
Pickford Walker Stones Konsa TAA Rice Mainoo Palmer Bellingham Gordon Kane
On the basis that Trippier is injured, Shaw can't be anywhere near match fit & Guehi is obviously suspended. I agree in bombing Foden, just isn't working for him atm (being slung out left doesn't help). We desperately need Gordon as an out & out left winger to bring some balance to the team & stretch the game. Palmer has to play IMO.
Saying all this, there's no chance Southgate is going to do anything as remotely drastic lol

we played well when we changed to 3 at the back. the game was far more controlled and allowed for toney to be used as a holdup player.
will we pick the team based on the players we have? not a chance. it'll be the same variation of players with the same tactical setup.

If you play a back four and sit deep (which Southgate teams do) you end up very negative. The problem he's given himself is sorting out how to utilise four top class tens and no first choice left sided defender. It's like Sven without the glamour....

Don't disagree but football is so fluid now, 4 at the back on paper in reality (especially in possession) isn't the case - whatever side has possession, the full back will be right up the pitch. Agree with your last line also.
