Yeah Matt Phillips is an odd one as proved to be a good player with WBA but never seemed very settled with us

Damien Delaney, who also went on to better things, but perhaps less appreciated when with us.

Mark Kennedy? We should have bought him, I seem to remember from what I read on the old message board at the time.

liked sylla, good player for us tbh. what a fucking neck though, so long that he could score a header from a corner that he's whipped it

Richard Dunne. If only because on Bobby Z day he fucking bossed the back line, took control. Massive contribution to the result. he got loads of love and credit through his short period with us. Maybe, but my main memory of that backline was that the discussion was always about Ned - one way or the other. Just felt he was a bit under everyones radar. I think you could make a case for saying he was our best CB since another Irish fella......

Andy Thompson. Lethal in front of goal but barely gets a mention when we talk about strikers

Sorry feel like I am being really pedantic here lol but yes my initial question was whether anybody since Thomson has scored 20 league goals in a seaosn for us. Austin didn't (19 if inc play offs, 17 if not).

Matty, I think you're thinking of the the following 14/15 season in the PL when he got 18.

oh yeah, if you're going strictly on league goals then you're right. yes I'm sad and pedantic enough to have mined his stats and he did indeed bang in 21 second division goals in 01/02 Not sad enough to check whether anyone has done it since, if Chaz mk1 didn't then I seriously doubt anyone else did.

Peter Eastoe. Decent sniper. His goal tally doesn't match his solid motor and work ethic. We swapped him with Everton for Mickey Walsh and they definitely did the better out of that deal! But as a player for the R's Peter Eastoe never scored the goals he should have but perhaps he was played out of position.

Spanning the generations - Mick Leach and Sam Field I agree with Mick Leach but do we under appreciate Sam Field? I know I was very pleased when he signed a new contract. He popped up with quite a few goals at end of the season didn't he? The two goals against West Brom spring to mind.

Mark Kennedy? We should have bought him, I seem to remember from what I read on the old message board at the time. I don't think he was underappreciated by the fans though... every time he played we sang 'sign him up!' as long and as loudly as we could, sadly to no avail. His brief loan spell was a wonderful cameo and he scored some fantastic goals.

Tony Sealy - top scorer one year ahead of Allen & Stainrod - but never very popular perhaps in the shadow of those two strikers
