We still look well short of where we need to be if this season is not going to be another season of struggle in the Championship. We will need Chair and a defensive midfielder who can pass forward but Kolli has looked good since coming on as has Celar |

Maybe the wake up call we needed. Assumption was we will kick on from last season. But maybe we played out of our skins to get those results. I hope we are not reverting to type. Don't want to read too much into a pre-season friendly but against a League 1 side we looked ragged, disjointed and short of ideas. No one bar Celar and Koli (in a few touches) with a clue how to attack. On a positive JCS and Cook look their commanding selves and like the new goalie's progressive style.

It could just be that they are getting worked hard in practice, had a mid week game, and just didn’t move like they needed to for many stretches of the game. When we were moving it quickly, making off the ball runs, we were getting opportunities.

You honestly would not have thought we were a league above Reading on this showing, and they were nothing special. |

thought smyth was easily the MOTM. head and shoulders our best attacking player.
not really many other positives, we controlled the game well, pressed, looked decent in possession and won most second balls. clear that we were lacking that creative edge up top though but hey ho, it's only a preseason game.

Obvs the result not important but anyone who saw the game should be a bit concerned. Yes its a pre-season friendly and Chair wasn't playing and we still have time to bring in re-enforcements, but on that showing very hard to see us (centre halves aside) as more than a bottom 6 side. |
