That's my selection and it's quite poor tbh. No creativity, no attacking threat.

Will not be the team Marti picks, but this team could have surprised West Brom. Colback weak link.

I'm going to sound like a broken record but until Willock is replaced I'm not feeling optimistic at all. My only hope is someone like Kolli or Lloyd will make their mark but that's clutching at straws a little. Chair has a different role and is definitely not this player.

I'm with you Stan, I can't see any creativity in the squad without Chair, who's not likely to play tomorrow, and even than Chair can be more greedy than creative. That creativity problem up front has not been addressed at all and it's a problem we've had for a few seasons now. It's maddening.

Chair was massively more effective than Willock last season by every metric but a) he is out Sat - now confirmed by West London Sport and b) we only stayed up last season by the skin of our teeth with both of them so it would be unrealistic to expect Chair to do it on his own c) what we really need to replace is the Willock of 18 months ago . Am sure we are working on it but fear the next few games could be rocky and devoid of creative ability

So play two up, get it forward quickly with runners supporting until we solve the problem?

Both bring their own set of skills. I've never argued Willock's form dipped last season (not helped by his appalling treatment by Ainsworth) but at times still brought things to the table no other player in the squad could, which is why it's imperative he's replaced. And the fact we've been linked the likes of Bowler and Rak-Sakyi suggest the club knows this too. Number 7 shirt is currently vacant also...

And if not him there will surely be someone else. Agree back at his peak Willock was different level, inc over Chair. But last season Chair was way up on goals scored, goals created, chances created, forward passes, even believe it or not crosses. So Chair wasn’t just different he was actually a lot better last season. Whatever went wrong with Willock (and we have all discussed it to death) a lot did go wrong!

Does that still work against so much more skilful Champ defences? Don’t know the answer to that. He’s got to find a way to get the ball in the box or we’re never going to score. If we’re not going to outplay teams at least two forwards would give us a chance.

Agreed, but nevertheless, there were moments of Willock of old even last season - things he did in open play on a level that no other player in the squad was remotely capable of (and I'm not just referring to his goals).

For me Willock was good when he wanted to be but disappeared in games for long periods.
Also quite often bottled tackles

None of us are happy with these daft kickoff times but you know what, we bleed blue and white. 6.30 uk time, I will be up. In the shower and washing my balls, ready for the day ahead and an almighty win for the R’ssss. Looking forward to giving kipre some stick.

Today’s opening game surely can’t be as bad as last season at Watford. Am feeling optimistic for the season now but worried about the next few games. The rumours of in-comings are showing much more ambition than I expected. But in the meantime we look desperately weak in attacking midfield. The massive positive over that Watford match is our defence - its night and day better than our team then. With respect to the likes of Gubbins he wouldn't get near the team now. See this as a cagey, fairly drab 0-0. We always knew the team would not be complete till the back end of the transfer window so if we do have a bad day I hope fans won't over-react. Two or even three additions could absolutely transform this team.

Baggies not the side or squad they have been in previous seasons. They been leaking goals pre-season against much weaker oppo than we have been facing in UK friendlies - question is have we got anyone to take advantage? Would love Kohli to announce his arrival with something special.
