Does anyone know how the system works nowadays? We have signed and relocated youngsters this window, and first team players from as far a field as Australia. Do we stick them and their families in hotels or find / pay for rental properties? We have relocated an awful lot of personnel this window. Back in 1998, I was living in Nascot Wood, near Watford. 2 doors down was a new build 4 bedroom house, owned by the family 3 doors down. They rented the house out and the only tenant they ever had was QPR who rented the house for our new £1m signing Richard Ord. Ord later wrote that he should never have passed a medical because his back was completely shot, however, it was a career finishing knee injury in a pre-season friendly that meant he never played a first team game for QPR. He was meant to be Alan McDonald’s defensive partner, bought by Ray Harford. Orr’s family were supposed to be joining him, but we never once saw them as he behaved as a recluse, never talking to any neighbours. His landlord contacted QPR concerned about him and also the state of the house. The tenancy continued for two years until Ord retired from the game, but by then he was rarely down south at the house or club. Sadly, Ord was in court in February charged with being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. He agreed to get help for his alcoholism, saying he was living off benefits. He is 54 now. I wonder if clubs still do the same?
