Thought Madsen was ok. What did he do wrong? Maybe one misplaced pass. Even won a couple of headers. 🤷♂️ What did he do right? Not sure he touched the ball second half

Does Marti need a plan b to go more direct sometimes?
Every time - ball gets passed to JCS out left, he looks to pass it up the line but checks, ignores Paal who has moved into centre mid to receive the pass, and instead goes back to Cook or the keeper.
Repeat to fade.
The times we looked more threatening were when we went direct. Same against Palace late on when Lloyd nearly scored off a long punt upfield.
Am not saying do it all the time but if we can’t beat the press and don’t have a midfielder who can receive the ball, turn and pass forward, what is the point of trying to play like Man City all the time when we simply aren’t good enough to play that way?

not a great game but we got a draw we arguably didn't deserve. don't think anyone really stood out except frey who had a great game and varane who really helped out in midfield when he came on. he's certainly settling in well and looks to have some talent.
it does feel like something is just waiting to click with the players though. tbh it was a difficult game for me due to a seriously bad hangover, one of those hangovers were you can't think straight and fail to even clap in rhythm with the rest of the crowd after we scored.

Hard watch today. Suppose that’s a point gained given how poor we were. Expectations sky high start of season but they have been dampened. This will land like a lead ballon but aside from his first few games I’m little bit underwhelmed by Dembele. Clearly a good technical player but I’m left thinking expect more each game. Anderson feels like a player for last season he came in done a job but perhaps that should have just been it thank you and good bye. Disappointed Dembele huge potential and one of our few players who can turn with the ball. But so far much of what he does isn’t quite coming off. See potential there where I frankly don’t with Madsen but some of those predictions that he would become our main man ahead of Chair and that he is already as good as peak Willock etc looking premature. Yet to really look like scoring and is being out-muscled by giant Championship defenders at the moment. Our defensive midfield also at fault as they just aren’t feeding him.

Blackburn up next?
I feel we will likely grab a point or all three as there feels like so much expectation down the bush every time we play...
Millwall didn't roll over and let us tickle their tummy like a lot felt they would do...
They bossed us in the first half especially in the midfield and apart from the period between their goal and ours looked more likely to score....
Second half was better but they must feel a bit sick they didn't take all three points...
Last season at this point we were on 6 points ( two away wins masking over 4 defeats )
This is a far better squad and manager than this time last year, let's hope Illias is fit as October is a really big month for this teams fortunes this season....

Does Marti need a plan b to go more direct sometimes?
I find it incredible that there is no mixing it up, no plan B. Press us hard and sooner or later we'll fuck it up. Even really talented back lines struggle with a constant play out diet. It reminds me of Warbs issues, his A game got found out and suddenly everyone fancied their chances vs us. He played 4-2-3-1 as well. I'd like to see us try 4-3-3, because it encourages quicker ball. That set up could be possible with a fit Ilias involved.
What makes it more frustrating is that even when you can see a side isn't comfortable being turned or dealing with a long ball, we don't recognise it (the Palace game being an example). Everyone knows how we're going to play. That doesn't matter if you have the talent but we aren't in that class.

If you dont roll your sleeves up,battle and compete you get nothing. Very fortunate to get a point. Marti got side wrong and players let him down. One of the poorest performances at home i have ever seen. Agree with all that Bill apart from Marti getting the side wrong because I thought that was probably our strongest side on paper, but got to say most of them didn't even turn up. Apart from the keeper, hardly anyone else deserves a mention.

Yeah interesting that some have said he got the side wrong when the general consensus when it was announced was that it was a good, strong lineup.

Lot of us said he'd play Dembele wide right, not middle, and didn't know he'd push Paal into midfield, instead of supporting Saito, and hoped Madsen and Andersen would turn up.

I’m assuming the support for Saito is supposed come from Anderson or Marsden and Paal filling in midfield protects and fills in for them being more adventurous.
It’s new system/tactics so assume will improve more we do it and team better understands.
We seem to play in patterns currently which I like but we’re not very agile it’s quite rigid

Paal Madsen Andersen in Mf? No wonder we’re getting wiped out
Note to Marti because of course he reads this. Fuck rigid systems. That’s what did for both Gareths. Play what’s in front of you. Heads up football.

Another thing that I'm really struggling to understand is Dembele got two assists in his first couple of games when taking corners.
Why the fuck have we now got Anderson taking corners when he can't even beat the first man?
Stupid fucking decision.

Absolutely. We all agree Marti a massive upgrade as a manager but he shouldn’t be above criticism because the constant playing out from the back isn’t working. As you say the direct approach v Palace on the v few occasions we tried it looked effective. Why move Paal into midfield if JCS refuses to pass to him and instead the ball goes back or sidewise? Why isn’t Marti sorting this?

With Dembele being left footed I think we have him on the left inswinging corners, and the opposite with Flaneur. That was certainly the case 1st half

We all know how they play Saito and Dembele are not physical players which i understand but Madsen and Andersen were also yesterday hence them overunning us. Agree on paper probably our best side but not against a very physical side like Millwall. Lost count of how many times we gave possesion away cheaply and lost the ball in 50/50s in our own half, you just cant do that imo. Also like it or not we missed Colback big time. Marti should know these things and pick team accordingly.

Plus pulls his groin taking them.

Four times we've given away possession playing it around at the back. Really don't understand why we persist with it. This, another good point just puts pressure on the whole team because we not good at it. Mix it up please.
