My take on the game whilst it's still fresh in mindGood result and the best we've played so far this pre-season, in which we largely dominated possession. Stand out players 2nd half were Chair and Eze who's creative partnership was a real joy to watch with their quick, neat and intricate passes. BOS and Shodipo remain frustrating with their lack of end product. If they can add this to their game they'll be a real threat this season, as they have all the other attributes. Masterson looks very composed at the back, whilst Ball had two very solid halves with barely a misplaced pass, keeping the play ticking over well. Scowen again showed his versatility by playing in three different positions over the 90 mins - first as an AM, then DM, then RB. Young Charlie Owens slotted in well and looked comfortable. He looks another good prospect. A very impressive 1st half from Luke Amos too who was dictating play from DM as well as coming up with two goals! Unfortunately he had to go off on the hour with what looked like a thigh strain. Finally, I think Leistner might struggle to break into the side now with Hall and Barbet forging a good partnership this pre-season. It looks like that pairing is Warburton's preference as both are the more naturally ball-playing CB's, and a fit Grant Hall is still our best defender with the ball at his feet. These two suit Warb's style of play. This result and performance should give us much needed confidence going into our final pre-season game next weekend. Just a couple of strikers is all that's missing!

Very good observation on the BFG. Not an automatic choice of Hall stays fit

Have said for a while if Hall is fit he’s our first choice cb. He’s very good at this level and after that injury I really hope he can have a good season.
The great thing is we have 4/5 players who can all play cb to a decent standard.
The young lad materson was highly rated at Liverpool!!

In addition to a couple of strikers, bringing in Cameron and Judge will improve this team immmensly. Oxford are only a Div 1 oufit, mind. But on the whole I agree with the opening poster that we played very well today..

But he is a quite versatile player and can hold his own physically..

Not sure how you would fit judge in He is quite versatile and Shodipo and BOS need competition.

agree with most of it although i thought shodipo was one of our best players, they just couldn't handle him! he played an absolutely beautiful pass to BOS around the 60th minute only for BOS to hit the crossbar.
thought we played some of the most attacking and fluid football in ages today up until the round of subs came on. it was very pleasing on the eye and for a preseason run out it was very entertaining stuff. if we sign a decent striker or 2 i reckon we're gunna have a very enjoyable season.
not sold on ball much but think hes a realiable fringe player. amos was exceptional today and i can't wait to see smith in the side. manning imo is worthy of being our 1st choice left back, he suits the style we're trying to play and is far better with the ball than bidwell, he does make mistakes but he'll only get better with experience imo and he has an attitude that makes me think he can excell at left back. hall and barbet look like a very good pairing together too. scowen will be crucial as well imo, he adds leadership and experience to our team, especially our attacking players.
yes we get caught out quite a bit and it will cost us points but at the end of the day i'd rather enjoy every game than scraping points together. warburton is playing the players that will suit his style the best and todays game showed that.

Not sure how you would fit judge in I don't think that will stop us signing him as it hasn't before with other players. He could be useful but I'd be worried about him slowing the progress of one of our younger lads who could be worth a decent fee at some point.

My big concern is injuries especially if we're trying to develop a particular style of play. I don't think we have the depth in squad for that.

My big concern is injuries especially if we're trying to develop a particular style of play. I don't think we have the depth in squad for that. Joe90 , my sense is that so much hinges now on which strikers we're able to bring in and how they settle. It's far from ideal that it's been left so late into pre-season but I understand the reasons for this. Even if we bring in two strikers we're still thin on the ground in that department having now sold Smith and Smyth out on loan until at least January. Saying that though, if we're only playing one up front, as it seems is Warb's preference, then perhaps two strikers in the squad would suffice. I don't share your injury concerns in other areas of the squad as I'd say we're pretty well covered in defence and midfield in such an event.

Didn't Wells and Hemed join us quite late last season and then quickly made an impact?

He just seems to have turned into yesterday’s man and no one appears interested in him. I think he’s taken his eye off football
If he wants to coast but still be loved then look no further then the charity club

For him to end up here Southampton would need to be prepared to let him go covering at least half of his wage.

Agree Tarbs he should with his ability go better side but no one seems interested, there are not even any rumours about a move for him and he’s training U23
Football is a funny game

He would do a job at Palace. I would hate to see hime go there but it would be a good move for both parties I think.

Wait til we get close to the end of the window and clubs start getting a bit desperate to fill their squads. Somebody will come forward with a proposal far better than anything we'd be able to do!
