Wednesday 24th July 2019 Slovenian striker Jan Mlakar joins QPR STRIKER Jan Mlakar has signed for QPR on a season-long deal from Brighton & Hove Albion. The 20-year-old Slovenian joined the Premier League outfit in January, before being loaned back to his homeland where his goals helped fire NK Maribor to the league title. Mlakar becomes our 10th summer signing, bringing some much-needed firepower to the R’s frontline ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. “I’m very pleased to be here,” Mlakar told www.qpr.co.uk. “I really like what I’ve seen of the place and I know just what an important club QPR are in England.
“I’m very happy to be here so that I can help the team. I want to play as well as I can and I want to score goals.”Mark Warburton has made no secret of his desire to bring in strikers before the season starts – and Mlakar is looking forward to working with the R’s boss. He said: “I spoke with the manager and he told me that he wanted a striker that suited his style of play. We all know that the Championship season starts soon, and I can’t wait to get started here.”The young forward has represented Slovenia’s national team at various youth levels and joins Rangers after scoring 15 goals in 36 games in Maribor’s title-winning season. Mlakar – who was part of Brighton’s pre-season trip to Austria – will now gain his first taste of English football after Albion allowed Rangers to acquire his services for the season. Warburton said: “Jan is a very talented striker who we’ve been aware of for a while.
“We’re very excited to have him on board – Jan is a very promising player who has already shown his qualities at international level.
“Our thanks must go to our friends at Brighton for their help on this one. We’re delighted to have him with us for the season.”Issued by Queens Park Rangers Football Club

Won the Slovenian 1st tier title with Maribor last season, scoring almost 1 in 2. Impressive.

Good. I know these videoclips can make anyone look good, but his composure with both head and feet in this compilation looks quite reassuring, albeit in a somewhat weaker league. Especially his eye for an assist in the last part looks good:

I'm quite hopeful. Looks well rounded on that YouTube vid. If we are going 1 up top we need someone who can head the ball, hold it up and turn a man/run a bit. It looks he can do all that!

They bought him for 3 mil so I'd say its a lowish loan fee so should still have funds. Think he wont be first choice as we will sign someone else.

Like the look of him and has some size. First thought was bit like mitro at Fulham

I think this type of signing and someone like Hogan is the best we can hope for, maybe even Wells added to the mix.
Good record at Maribor. Be interesting to see how he gets on.

Anyone know how the Slovenian 1st tier compares with the championship, standard wise? Slovenia is 65th in the FIFA world ranking. League Two standard I think

Slovenia has nothing to do with Czech. It's part of the former Yugoslavia 😀

Anyone know how the Slovenian 1st tier compares with the championship, standard wise? Not very good, but Maribor have traditionally been a very decent team when playing in European tournaments. Edit: They have at least been hard to beat. Rosenborg have met then a few times through the years.

Underwhelmed if I'm honest. A 20 year old EPL foreign punt loan to be the polished head of a flaccid base.

Not me. Kind of signings we should be taking a punt at on a perm IMO, instead of overpriced "locals". Think you get more for 3 million (Washington) or even 500k (Wheeler) if you buy young attacking talent from Europe, and more chances of making a profit.

Brighton´s owners, I suppose. What´s your point? Edit: Sorry didn´t get it first time. You mean we don´t have 3 million to spend anymore, and your probably right. All I am saying is that we should look at this kind of player in the future, when we do have funds to invest.
