£2m for Dieng with a year left on his deal is decent business after his general level of performance last season. i agree tbh. still a bit annoyed that we didn't cash in on him last summer when we might have got 3x that ammount. it'll be interesting to see who we bring in. hopefully its not lumley or begovic though, walsh likely is no where near ready for the role.

£2m for Dieng with a year left on his deal is decent business after his general level of performance last season. Is it such a good deal with a year left, it didn’t stop us paying a reported £2.2m for Rob Dickie with a year left on his Oxford league one contract when our wallet was full with Eze money. Although Dieng wasn’t at his very best last year he’s still a very solid Championship keeper with his best years ahead of him, and Boro wallet is not empty after selling 2 players last season for close to £30m in total.

If we are so skint for £2m wouldn’t it have made more sense to increase Dieng salary and contract length rather than do similar with Dykes?

That's assuming he wanted to resign Sparks.

That's assuming he wanted to resign Sparks. Yes of course it does Tarbie. Being perfectly honest who would if they had an ounce of footballing ambition, I mean the lumbering Martin who was the apple of Ainsworth eye looks like he thinks can do better elsewhere, the same with the league 1 player from Wigan and Lewis bloody Wing. It’s all fine and dandy Ainsworth saying he only wants players that want to be here but it’s quite clear to me he’s not a powerful magnet to attract players that most of us perceive of at an acceptable standard to play Championship football.

You think Stains? I'd rather take as much up front as we can rather than try to load the deal with add-ons. I genuinely think Seny's best years in football were the 2 seasons prior to the one just gone. He's not as young as you'd think. Don't really see his career going to a much higher level.

Maybe time for Joe Walsh to be given a go. We haven't seen much of him, he was one of the many injured keepers when Warbs was here.

Gens, he didn't want to renew. We all complain about the quality of the players we are signing, but that ain't gonna improve if we let the few salable assets we have walk for free.
As usual, club can't win whatever they do.

It was no secret we need to sell anyone we can get money from this season mate. We will have to replace with cheaper and earning less. That is the brutal reality I am afraid.

If that’s the case why is Dykes still here? I suspect replacing Dieng is a much bigger problem to solve financially with salary demands than some fans may anticipate. What price is Championship safety in the big picture.

Spend less than half of £2M on a decent seasoned keeper. Look how good Marshall was when he came in...definitely some decent pro's out there.

How was Ørjan Nyland when he played for Reading? I remember he made at least one huge mistake, but he is a free agent now.

Not at all, but I think a lot of keepers are managing those sort of issues. Have you ever seen Rob Greens hands? One of his pinkies is bent at right angles.

Just wonder if Boro might at least be in with a shout for promotion Tarbs. They might think: "we can pay for this with Prem money if we go up and it won't impact FFP, and if we don't go up we don't pay anything more". Obvs I'd like the 2m too, but well worth pressing for these adds ons imho. The Eze add ons might ride to our rescue once again for FFP (not that I'm comparing Eze and Deing).
