Little bit about his time with us here...
After making nearly 250 appearances, he left for fellow Championship club Queens Park Rangers in January 2008. Hull went on to be promoted to the top flight at the end of that season, but the offer from QPR was “just far too good to refuse,” Delaney explains.
“I felt at that stage that it was time for a new challenge anyway, because I had been at Hull for nearly six years. I went down to QPR then and it turned out to be an an interesting spell, to say the least.”
With controversial chairman Flavio Briatore holding the reins, Delaney was at QPR during a rather turbulent time for the club. In 18 months at Loftus Road, he played under three permanent managers — Luigi De Canio, Iain Dowie and Paulo Sousa — as well as caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth, who had a couple of interim stints at the helm.
Delaney says: “Things were a shambles at the club. You’d barely have said ‘hello’ to a new manager by the time he was sacked again. It was a bit toxic so I couldn’t wait to get out in the end.
“Paulo Sousa — who I thought very highly of as both a person and a manager — called me into his office one day and said I wasn’t going to be playing the following day. When I asked him why, he told me the owner wanted to help pick the team. ‘I have to give him two or three and unfortunately you’re one of them,’ he said. That kind of stuff was going on all the time. It was crazy.”

Not sure what that says about Sousa. He may well be a lovey bloke but doesn’t sound like he had much of a backbone.

Boils my piss every time I read stuff about things behind the scenes when Flavio was involved with the club.
As much as TF is a Wally, at least he isn't a narcissistic tyrant like Flavio was!

Strange though isn't it - Tango and Cash got things done, ultimately getting us promoted. It was a toxic time, I remember it well - I was part of the protest after a game calling for Flavio to fuck off - all his boutique club and cheap fans bollocks. And yet.... they still achieved far more than Toxic Tone. Nice as TF may be, he's been an absolute nightmare as owner/chairman. Out of the frying pan, into the fire kind of sums it up... What a strange set of circumstances that first we got bought by Tango and Cash and then, instead of the Mittals as main owners, we got Fernandes. But it was under Tango and Cash that we had our best ever Championship campaign with Colin at the helm, so ironically, my most enjoyable ever season in the modern era was down to them. Football is basically a mad enterprise anyway, and commodifying it has only made it worse. Such is post-modern capitalism; brutal, extreme, narcissistic and downright nasty, it has spoiled sport, over-hyped it, loaded it with garish advertising and ludicrous expectations.

I don't know how much of our promotion season you can put down to Tango & Cash. When they stopped turning up and Amit and Warnock took over, that's when thing started to go well.

Fair point, but it was still under their ownership Bri. Far more by luck than design Hubs. And he couldn't wait to screw us over by selling up as soon as we got promoted, thereby leaving Warnock in the shit with no transfer budget for the prem, which immediately put us at a disadvantage to the other promoted teams. Vast majority of the credit goes to Warnock and Bhatia for that promotion. In the 4 year plan you see Flavio virtually handing the reins over to Amit. And even then he suggests sacking Warnock later on following a short dip in form, before Bhatia again has to re-assert his authority.

Well I could say 'you make your own luck', but yes, fair enough Stan. So they were utter c*nts and Fernandes a Walter Mitty owner who has fucked us over good and proper. Great. I suppose the redeeming factor would be if we do actually come out of FFP okay.

And I don't remember us ever being particularly well run it that time. Although I was a kid for the first 10 of those years!

Can't say I've seen any of that on here... I'm not talking about on here. Though I can recall the odd post here too. In general I've seen many people call for the Flavio days.
