sorry if someone else does a player ratings thing normally, i'm just absolutely buzzing after todays game!
lumley 6 - think it's a bit generous to give him a 6 after he made 2 or 3 schoolboy errors that could easily have cost us had stoke been more fortunate. still, his distribution, passing and composure were excellent plus he made an excellent decision to come out of his area early in the 1st half to tackle afobe after scowen misplaced a pass. looks a lot more confident this season than he did last and i feel like he could be a central figure of our side.
rangel 7 - linked up well with BOS and was a sure head on his side of the pitch. tired out a bit later in the game and misplaced a few passes but you'd never guess that he's 36! his experience and positioning allowed BOS to flourish.
hall 8 - commanding at the back and reminded me of his 1st season with us. mopped up the ball very well and dealt with longballs, pacey players and closed down well. very good performance from him, my only minor criticism was that he kicked the ball out for a throw in a handful of times when he could just as easily have tried hoofing it to the midfield where we were winning a lot of second balls anyway.
barbet 6.5 - not the worst game but not the best either. did his job but got caught out a few times. looked nervous and struggled with tom ince when moved to leftback after our reshuffle.
manning 8 - i'm a big fan of manning at left back and think people are sometimes too quick to write him off. looked a natural at left back today and got stuck in with closing down, interceptions and the odd tackle including a brilliant yet easy looking one on tom ince late in the game on the touchline. linked up very well with eze and worked his socks off. backed up barbet well after our reshuffle.
amos 7 - did well in his championship debut and looks like a very intelligent player. timed a few tackles and interceptions brilliantly and positioned himself well across the pitch, always an outlet for a pass and always looked to drive the ball forward.
cameron 7.5 - brilliant game in the center of the park alongside amos on his return to stoke. he reminded stoke why they were stupid to let him go and sign cousins as his replacement. looked very tidy and never put a foot wrong all game.
bos 8.5 - some might think it's a bit of a high rating for him but he was exceptional today and mcclean just couldn't handle him whilst the rest of their defence didn't do much better containing him! showed brilliant strength, determination and pace to set up the goal for hugill after forcing butland to make a costly error due to his pace. will shine brightly this season imo.
scowen 5 - did some of the basic stuff well but lost the ball too many times with misplaced passes including the one that lumley's tackle had to rectify. should have made it 2-0 after surging late into the box to get onto the end of a cross at an open goal but nodded it wide. he got caught out a bit too much and rarely did much with or without the ball.
eze 8.5 - exceptional game out on the left and cutting in. looked very confident and composed on the ball in warburton's newlook side. scored an absolutely beautiful goal and one of the best individual goal's i've seen from one of our players in a while. he's not passing back as often as he did last season and looks eager to get the ball moving up the pitch. great vision and should break out this season.
hugill 7 - scored a relative tap-in from BOS delightful work against butland. worked hard all game and made himself available across the final third. very good debut.
pugh 5 - didn't get to see him shine much due to our defensive reshuffle
leistner 5.5 - shored up the defence and made some important clearances from the back
shodipo 5 - made a few runs but was muscled off the ball most of the time, still, he looks like he could easily be a like for like swap with BOS
stoke's motm - collins 6 - the guy is only 18 and this is only his 4th appearance but i thought he looked like a natural in the championship. did well to muscle our players off the ball and battled hugill effectively.
