Bait swallowed whole.
Dont matter what system you play, you need someone to stick it back of the net on a consistent basis. Its absolutely that simple. Giroud never suited Arsenal apparently but the book says he was a mighty effective striker.
Just watching us yesterday you could see how we're depending on AMF goals this term. For me Hugill doesn't make em panic, doesn't look that quick either, a kind of pretend striker. Maybe give the new boy a shout next time out.

Two matches gone and you already label him a "Pretend striker" That was early, but OK...

Two matches gone and you already label him a "Pretend striker" That was early, but OK... He was a pretend striker for a good while before we picked him up, thats for sure... the one positive for us is that his career with an EPL parent club depends 100% on whether he can get his finger out at this level. Here's hoping.

Here's hoping. Yes, let us hope he can find back to his form he showed while at Preston NE.

Matt Smith would have scored some of those first half crosses on Saturday....some proper height on them !

They all went straight to keeper or out for throws. That’s only criticism from Saturday final ball is lacking

They all went straight to keeper or out for throws. That’s only criticism from Saturday final ball is lacking There was golden opportunity around 25m in, defender in front of our boy simply missed it in the air, three yards out, absolutely no one else in attendence bar a stranded keeper on the line, free header. Y'all know who would have gobbled that up all day long. But you do have a point Westie, because that was the exception. If we can't get it wide and deep and deliver crosses it doesn't really matter who wanders round in a 9 shirt. And that is an issue Warbs needs to think about imho. AMF looks good but not enough width is a potential issue with the way he sets up.

Just getting his nut on it would have been an improvement on what we saw. Hugill reminds me of late phase Rob Hulse. Looking forward to seeing the other lad get his chance, maybe tonight.

No mobility and spent 90% of the game with his back to goal. Hugill has much more in his locker than that. Not 100% he suits being up there on his own, he needs someone supporting him and making runs off him which we never had (certainly while Scowen was playing in the hole) this weekend. We might actually do a bit better to have our wingers sit back a bit and play more of midfield 4, with Nakhi Wells playing off Hugill.

Not 100% he suits being up there on his own... everyone was telling me that was why we got him.... I can't see any other evidence, and I've been watching real hard. It's early days though. btw who was it who signed Hulse? One of our greatest non events.....

It's early days though. btw who was it who signed Hulse? One of our greatest non events..... That lone striker role is a tough one mate. You need to be physical enough to hold the ball up, but mobile enough to keep defenders honest. I'm not sure many strikers at this level are genuinely good enough to properly nail the job. Hugill certainly needs a lot more help up there than he was getting first half on Saturday. Hulse was a Warnock signing wasn't he mate? I think he played under Warnock at Sheff Utd before his legs went. One of those signings where the manager signs a player on former glory rather than current ability!
