Only 8 to go.

I'm not sure how anyone can defend Barbet at this point.

I'm not sure how anyone can defend Barbet at this point. I was saying at half time to a few lads last night, I, genuinely am not convinced we are good enough to play the way the manager wants is to. And Barbet is the epitome of that. For starters, he ain't quick enough to handle the high line the manager wants to play. If the other side has got some pace up top, he's going to continue to be caught out as long as we keep playing that way. Secondly, he's clearly being asked not to hoof it under any circumstances. Instead they need to get it down and play out from the back. All well and good if you have Virgil van Dyk or John Stones at the back. With Championship standard defenders it's a dangerous game though. I suspect these 'naive mistakes' as Warburton calls them would be far less frequent if our keeper and defenders were not being instructed to play this way.

We have a keeper who is not that good with his feet and a left side of our defence that is often caught out of position which leads us to trouble yet still the coach has them continuing to play in this way. Sometimes the percentages are the way forward and right now that is the way for us.

Warburton is no dummy, as a pattern is emerging here (not altogether dissimilar to the start of last season). He knows he has to either switch Barbet for BFG, or tweak the style, or both. Surely?

Hugill showed what he can do when ball goes in box yesterday and had one chalked off. Like Big Smith don’t put ball in box and he will look ineffective. I would not be stopping Hugill I would be adding to him personally

He could see our potential defensive weakness 73, which is why he wanted the Aberdeen or Hamburg CBs, but our budget prevented that.

Fair point Stanley, Then why not protect it and change things during games when we get exposed? Albeit with limited CB options (BFG is not a ball playing one), he seems to be an astute enough coach to learn from this and adapt, 73. Let's hope so anyway. Let's hope Wallace is available for the next game too to at least provide some competition.

Let's have a look at Masterson too. Prem kids are well coached and he came from a club that play out from the back. Good enough, old enough.

Fuck playing the ball out from the back, lump it and win the second ball !
Anyway, if we MUST try and play like Barcelona I don't recall Leistner having a problem passing a ball.

Great way to lose what few fans we still have. It was football like that, the poor results that went with it, and the inevitability of where it would lead that lead to us to the style of football which is getting the crowd up on it's feet every few minutes. Lumping the ball might be alright for Sunday park football but the modern game has moved on thankfully.

i like how we're playing, i'd rather finish 15th but play great football than finish 10th playing hoofball. its about being entertained and no one can deny that we haven't enjoyed the football so far.
we do have the players to play this kind of football too, its schoolboy errors that have cost us which i take as a positive in a bizzare way. its rare for player at this level to be making the kind of errors we have but it happens, we have to persevere with what we're doing and it'll work out in the end. we were the better side overall against swansea for sure.
in regards to hugill i think he can and will flourish with us if given the right service, hes arrogant, confident and never second guesses himself which is what any striker has to be if they're to score goals. our attacking midfielders imo are some of the best in the division and the likes of chair, eze and bos have the potential to be premier league players one day if they add to their game but that only happens from getting game time. you could easily argue that the 3 of them are already much better players and being played to their strengths compared to last season

My view is we should definitely persist with this style. Despite getting angry watching the last two games, my anger was at the injustice, the silly mistakes and the poor officials rather than our style of football. It has been very refreshing. Not many teams will outplay us this season in my opinion.

I don't care whether we do that passing the ball around from the back or we revert to something more direct. What I really don't want to see happen is a season of controlling games in terms of possession but winning nothing. It's good that fans are walking away from games entertained but it's utterly futile if the net result is us losing games every week.

I take your point Grant but I honestly believe the wins will come playing this style of football. Especially if we cut out the errors. Some neutral officials would help as well.

Need to score when we are on top of teams instead of losing momentum and the initiative, then watch the confidence grow. Going to miss Cameron and Amos. Really like Amos.

Cameron did hamstring stretching for that wank corner and Amos was down a while then went straight off so I'm not optimistic about either, at least not for Saturday.

I see Wallace is in the fanzone tomorrow so he is clearly not match fit yet.
