Been chatting to other fans about Bury on Facebook. Mad how little sympathy there seems to be for them. For fans of other League 2 sides the general consensus seems to be that Bury cheated the system to get promoted last season and deserve what's coming. I suppose I get it, but every club is just 1 bad owner away from being in the same predicament! And of course those fans are also missing the point, which is that the 'system' is itself deeply flawed. The case for having a 'system' in the first place has not been made. In fact if there were no system at all, there is an argument that fewer clubs would have sailed so close to the wind. At the same time anyone can buy a football club who is not facing current court action or bankruptcy proceedings. That is pretty much it. Furthermore the EFL have done absolutely nothing, zilch, to encourage the formation of supporters trusts and take overs / buy outs. There's a reason for the squalid status quo: the EFL represent the in situ boardrooms. They're not interested in further scrutiny, and they're certainly not interested in helping competitors out.
