All comes down to what's in the contract.
To be honest, I heard that Cardiff had organised a proper flight for Sala to get him to Cardiff safely. Instead his agent/representative organised a flight in his battered old private jet with a washed up old drunk with virtually no recent flying time as a pilot. If that's true then I understand why Cardiff are appealing it.
To liken it to your analogy Leighsy, it would be like you buying a car, the company you bought the car from hiring a private driver to drop it off to you, that driver crashing the car and writing it off, but you still being charged the full price of the car regardless!

As Tarbie says, the interpretation of the contract will determine the outcome. What I did find strange was that they have ruled on the first payment being due but said they will consider the next payments separately. You would have thought it was all due or none of it was. It is clearly a bit more complicated than that. I am guessing future payments (or some element at least) were perhaps dependent on appearances, goals etc.

if they only got to pay a fraction how does this effect ffp,i mean they bought a stiff for 17 mill, got relegated in to ffp hard on land. Now they only paying peanuts. How can this be fair.

Dunno but I bet their life insurance premiums will be sky high this season.

In their defence there is mitigation. Cardiff originally offered to pay for Sala to fly with a recognised pilot and his agent said no and hired a very sub standard alternative. Were I in Cardiff's shoes I would sue the agent for any losses they suffer.
