It's almost as though we don't want to take advantage of this inconsistent division... That's exactly what's most bewildering about the situation. There's been a genuine opportunity to take advantage of it had some very BASIC defending issues (with defenders we already have) been addressed.

Get that bookies said that but I’m talking about own personal opinion CCJ never thought we were certs go down Decent manager, reasonable squad so middle table was my view Yes mate, that was also my view. I didn't really get the bookies odds. I thought it was way over the top.

I don't think we have the skill set for a 3/5 back line vs anyone half decent. We can't keep the ball out of our own net, so back to basics. If you haven't got the quality, go 4. It simplifies the drills, makes holding a line way easier. Having said that there's very little evidence that anyone at the club is capable of coaching any type of back line, and for me that is what really needs addressing. It's almost as though we don't want to take advantage of this inconsistent division... That thinking was behind why I posited my wild theory about the club trying to develop players who can play that way because we can get more money for them further down the line. As I have said many times on here I don't believe this team is a one season only deal, it is the first steps in where the club want to be and the first season was always going to be the hardest as we didn't have hardly any cash to kick it off.

There is really no excuse for the no clean sheets record especially as so many goals are self inflicted.
Only way to describe it is sloppy

Interesting theory/fact Esox. I suppose if we're being pragmatic then there needs to be a combination of both good basic defensive technique to suit the situation on the pitch in the moment along with developing the modern style of play. Sticking rigidly to one system isn't working. However, as you say, we've not had a settled back line for weeks and that creates its own problems which are nothing to do with style of play. I still think Kane will come good and Wallace looks like the real deal, so if Leistner/Hall/Barbet can stay fit then things should improve. After reading Clive's report on last nights fan forum it appears that I was close to being spot on with the theory that we are producing players to be of the most value to EPL clubs and the style most popularly played. It is also apparent that we won't be changing from the close passing out from the back any time soon and we will be shipping goals until the team gets it right.

There is really no excuse for the no clean sheets record especially as so many goals are self inflicted. Only way to describe it is sloppy exactly, i get that with our brand of football we're going to end up conceding more but i reckon at least 6 of the goals conceded are the result of sloppy stevie wonderesque defending. when you think about it as well our defenders are arguebly much better compared to last season.
