I was there, the pitch looked like it had been covered in bitumen and straw in places and Niedzweicki had been helping Robinson deal with cramp just moments before the speculative shot that beat him. At the time we all thought the only reason the ball hit the back of the net was because all the R's fans behind the goal were sucking as hard as they could to make sure it crossed the line. It was all the sweeter because of Ken Bates' remarks about our plastic pitch etc. in the first leg (IIRC Mickey Droy pulled up lame in the warm up before the game at LR)

Stood in the old benches for that one. Was also at the league game in the same year when we thumped them 6-0. Good times.

Wicksy seems pleased. π We sold out the North Stand so about 8,000. The most we ever took over there. both pens behind the goal?

In those days they were a very different kettle of fish to Chelsea now ,it was a very nasty place to go then , a lot of innocent fans got slapped at Stamford Bridge ,proper bullys .

Was at league game think it 92 when the away end was packed out both pens and we lost one nil. Think Mick Harford scored.
Was my first away game
Why we suddenly start taking big numbers there as it was well punchy outside then still

As I may have mentioned before when we used to do awaya back then in London we often used to go in the home end and keep quiet. Hard to believe but it was a lot safer than being identified as an easy target coming out of the away end. I was also at Chelsea V Leeds that year when it kicked off big time (we were away up North or not playing that day) It was carnage in and outside the ground that day.

I've been to Chelsea probably 4 times, mainly in the 70's. Never saw a mob of Rangers there, were spread out all over the Bridge. Like what has already been said, standing in the Shed end was probably the safest place to be. Chelsea at that time had one of the biggest hooligan firms in the Country and would bring 5,0000+ anywhere away. Like Vespa has said, they were bullies and you only felt safe after you'd got home and closed the door behind you

Hello everyone, my first post on Fantasy Island.
The time I saw Rangers at Scumford Bridge was beating them 3-0 December 1974, I stood on the North Stand with my Chelsea supporting uncle, could have heard a pin dropped when we scored.
Francis & Bowles ripped them apart.
Uncle Alec was proper pissed of going home, shame.

I was at this game.. we went barmy when that 2nd goal went in.
My first ever away game as a kid was when we won there 3-1 in 77/78. I also went there around 84 or 85ish.. we won 2-0. I went with a load of mates who were scum fans and had to sit in the East stand listening to that carnt Greenaway chanting. We had a good turnout that day.. and I could see big Lionel and a lot of faces in the North stand from where I was sitting. Apparently we had a good go at them down North End road that day. That was probably the game when Qpr started to have a go back at those bully mugs. Chelsea are the sort of team who would never admit when they got done especially by little ole Qpr. A lot like Millwall, West Ham and Leeds, the invincibles

Rangers had pops there for years, few organized mobs few just spur of moment. I may of had a clash with equal numbers near a burger van one game,we on top. Them more of them piled in. Also chassed Chelsea all over that park going to parsons green one year with big firm of gooners.

Ah the old dog track.
Always the sweetest place to win. I remember that 77/78 one.
