But Mourinho wasn't calling the shots on transfers at Utd or negotiating the salaries. The problems at that club run much higher up the food chain than the Manager. You telling me Mourinho had no involvement in those transfers Tarbs? No involvement? Absolutely not, he would have had his targets just as Woodward and the board would have had theirs. What am saying is that he certainly didn't have final say on who was purchased or full visibility on what fees/salaries were being paid. I think there have been a number of stories in the press about targets Mourinho had that were overruled. I don't think at any point in his tenure he had what I'd consider a full squad (i.e. 2 Premier League standard players for every position). In contrast, Spurs absolutely have had a full squad in recent years. Whilst it hasn't been refreshed enough, they are certainly better equipped to challenge than Man Utd at present.

When Poch eventually did get funds, it still didn't work out. By that time though the board / gaffer / squad chain had completely broken down.
There are some other interesting points from all this from which lessons can be learned: the curse of new stadia (see also Arsenal), the role of DoFs etc etc.
You're more likely to get a tune out of Jose if you give him complete control, DoF has to be in the cellar or his bitch. Or both. I think Levy gets that.
The special one would swallow Les whole.

If either finish above Spurs it will cost them more than the figure paid to him. Read something a few years ago about the pay offs these sacked managers get. Big reason why we have so many overseas managers in the PL
