Really good player at start of the decade. Didn't work out for him at Barca but then had a really good year at West ham before fading away.

Has played 47 games in 4 years... He got royally stitched up in Russia mate. Signed for Rubin Kazan who had promised him a big salary, house etc. They never delivered on any of the promises, had him living in a room at the training ground and I think he left without being paid close to 8m Euros in salary/bonuses that was due to him. I think he was eventually frozen out of the first team picture. Can't blame the player for that, who would want to work under those conditions? So that accounts for 2016 to 2018. Last season he played 13 games in Switzerland. Clearly we ain't signing the same player that Barcelona paid 15m quid for, but hopefully he has enough left in the tank to do a job here for a year or 2. |

Also, been told by 2 different people that know a bit that the deal has already been done. I'd say the reality of this transfer is his abilities are on the wane, and he's nothing like the player he was 4 or 5 seasons back. In fact, clearly this must be the case otherwise we wouldn't have been able to sign him. I'd guess he's just happy to be given the chance to return to London and play regular football. I really doubt we have broken the wage structure to sign this guy! |

Can play defensive midfield or central defence. I'd guess we've probably signed him to ustilise at centre half. One of those signings where you just don't know what to expect, isn't he? Hasn't played at much of a level or particularly regularly since he left West Ham in 2016. |
