This will probably go down like a lead ballon but am I the only person who has had enough of the clubs obsession with a minute of bollocks before almost every game
It’s like they're looking for reasons to do it now. Today’s effort was applause to applaud those we have previously applauded
We will be having a minutes applause for the bloody minutes applause next
If a highly regarded former player or staff member passes then Fair enough but we do it for everyone and it actually undermines it when someone does deserve it
Enough

Did they do a minutes applause for everyone we've lost this year?
Not sure I really get that either. As you say, you pull that card too often you certainly devalue it. It used to be that we'd only do a minutes silence if we lost a former player or someone very close to the club.
World we live in today though isn't it?
I cant even watch British daytime TV / news anymore without getting the hump a bit. I get pissed off at how generally soppy and soft your average punter is these days. I've actually found myself quite enjoying Piers Morgan (even though he's a bit of a twat) because he's got the bollocks to actually tell people when they are being daft, overly-PC or just generally soft. Meanwhile most of the rest of the country are nodding along as they being told that there are 126 genders these days, and it's OK not to vaccinate your kids or let them identify as a My Little Pony or whatever soppy shit they come up with next.

Perhaps we could have a minutes silence for Mark Warburton's reputation as a Football Manager at the next home game!

Yeah, what a waste of a whole minute once a year.

Yeah, what a waste of a whole minute once a year. You are right, it isn't a lot of time but I think most opposition is due to the excessive amount of minute's silences means that they lose their meaning. We should have had one for Jim Smith but did we really need one for Matthew Brazier? It was tragic what happened to him but he played under 50 matches and was very forgettable. Minute silences should be reserved for club legends, figures of national importance and current players in the league. Well for starters it was applause to celebrate those who had died this year and were connected to QPR; that included people who worked for the club and not just players. If a minute for that is a burden then go for a piss or something.

I think generosity of spirit shouldn't be taken for granted. Some people struggle with empathy and having a connection with the human condition. "Have a heart" can be quite demeaning to someone who hasn't got one. Imagine how the tin man would have felt in the Wizard of Oz if he heard that said.

There is such a thing as overkill (no pun intended), to the extent it risks losing its effect and descends to virtue-signalling.

I knew when I read the original post that you'd raise exception to this one Esox.
Clearly nobody is begrudging a minute of their time. Also I don't think it's a case of fans lacking empathy. The concern (as quite clearly stated a few times) is that if you have a minutes applause every week or every other week, there is a genuine concern of the gesture losing it's meaning.
I remember the weekend Ray Jones died. Me and my mate, 2 lads in our early 20's welling up at the loss of one of our favourite players in R Block before the game. What would we do now if we lost a 1st team player? When there is a minute applause/silence every week, somehow that gesture wouldn't quite seem enough.

Why not through year put a paragraph on site or program, and then last home game each year, put all names on score board and do min silence or applause for lot.

Not specific to this thread but something I have picked up on again here is that clearly older posters want to 'tell' people rather than engage in debate. Glad I haven't got like it.

Simply expressing their irritation as to how this sort of thing has been allowed to become the norm. What better way to liven up the crowd before a game, than to get everybody thinking about all the loved ones they have lost throughout the year. Genius. As for being respectful, much prefer silent reflection personally. Clapping is a bit like wearing a white poppy. Cheapens the whole thing. IMO. 😄

Is it not possible to just ignore LGBT flags? you might not care who people sleep with but unfortunately as the many violent incidents against gay people show, some people clearly still do. Autistic singers? Women's team? not interested but why should it bother me? makes no odds. I just watch the football....which does bother me

The roar that goes up on the ref's whistle is probably the most noise our crowd makes all match - apart from booing at half time of course😁
