What is actually more important to a side
Only ask as we have brought another attacker in when most would say it’s the last area which needed addressing. I’m sure their is a plan and logic behind bringing in another attacking player but it’s interesting it’s opposite of what most fans think is required. I know we were also in for another highly regarded attacking Chelsea prospect which we never got over the line.
Strikers always go for more money then defenders but top coaches will say strikers win you matches but defenders win you titles

Can only think it’s something to do with the emergence of Masterson, with the thinking that gives us enough cover now....but thought I also read that Warbs wants him to go out on loan (might be wrong there?), but if that’s the case it makes no sense, to me at least.

Fergie said strikers win you games, defenders win you titles. I agree with him. Season we won the Championship we kept 25 clean sheets, it wasn't all about the attacking side of our game then.

Every successful team in the years I have been watching has been built from the back. From Bill Nicholson to Shankly to Ramsey to Clough, the Germans, the Italians. Keegan tried the 'we'll score more than you' approach at Newcastle and it didn't get him anywhere. You only have to look at your own posts to see which is more important as you have noted the points we have dropped due to shit defending.

If you have a good defence you only NEED to score once, but you would bore the arse off everyone. Ref - Arsenal of old.

attack from a fan's view imo if i had to choose. i'd much rather watch this team than the opposite which is jfh's boring defensive team a few seasons back. i'm excited to watch this side as we regularly score goals and are on the edge of our seat most games. jfh's team was honestly the most boring side i've seen in my short time supporting us, it genuinely felt like a chore going to games under him

See what you describe is how I felt about Ollies route one game. He killed the life out of watching QPR for me
If we had little bit of JFH defensive discipline with Warburtons attacking influence we would prob have the right balance 😂

I now more and more think "the Warburton way" of thinking defence is to bring in defenders that doesn`t need coaching. IOW, bringing in the finished article when there are money to spend. Not sure It sounds logical, but It`s just how I feel it is. To be honest, I`m not sure I have answered the opening poster`s question, but in a way,... and to make a simple question complicated, It kind of depends on the squad you have at you disposal..

Good defence and a top class keeper, Shilton, Southall, Seaman, Peter Schmiechel, De Gea, Allison to name a few earn their team 10 to 15 points a season. Yes you need a goal threat but tight at the back is the platform to win you matches. Our season highlights that perfectly.

Q) Attack v defence?
A) What we haven't been doing in training.

Probably over thinking it but maybe we are playing gung ho as attackers tend to attract the most interest and the most money. Say we opted to play a defensive game that didn’t play to eze, bos and chairs strengths....would they be as notocible? Would teams want to chase them and give us the big bucks? That’s how the club operates now, but low sell high. Plus it’s fucking exciting and we play some fabulous football. Frustrating at times but I wouldn’t change it for a mouriniho park the bus style. We’ve had enough mind numbing football down the years so it’s attack attack attack for me

Yes you need a goal threat but tight at the back is the platform to win you matches. Our season highlights that perfectly. Yes. We'd likely be in the automatic spots now, certainly top 6, had we been able to eradicate some very basic defensive errors. If we were to highlight this season's most frustrating factor so far, then that is it. The fact we were one of the relegation favourites before the start of the season, and the squad was built on a shoestring with one of the lowest wage structures in the division is all irrelevant to that simple fact IMO, and I'm aware a few disagree with that.
