I've seen Scott Hogan's name mentioned on social media a few times too. It would make sense. Ain't gonna get a look in at Villa in the top flight, and played some of his best football under Warburton. He's bound to go out on loan to someone in the Championship! He's got goals aplenty in him. Could be the sort of signing that makes or breaks our season! Sounds great, but surely he's more likely to try and go to somewhere like Sheffield United after his successful loan spell there. I'd love it it we signed him but just can't see it.. When he signed for Sheffield Utd nobody gave them a shout of being in the mix at the top of the division. In fact, his goals were a major factor in why there were up there. I'd guess if Sheffield Utd want him, then he'd go there over us. But maybe they are setting their sights higher now they are in the Prem. I'm not really sure he's a Premiership standard player. Very good Championship player for sure! Bottom line is he probably won't make the starting 11 at Villa. He's probably on a deal there that is beyond the means of any Championship side (apart from perhaps the 3 teams coming down), and that's before you consider the transfer fee that would be required to sign him. As such, I'm certain he will go out on loan, with Villa continuing to pay a chunk of his wages. The only reason I think we are in with a decent shout is the Manager. These guys have worked well together in the past, and I think that will go a long way!

Never really done it in the Championship has he? No. Averaged 1 in 2 for Doncaster in league 1 but maybe that's our market now for strikers. This is what I don't get re the Smith debate. So his career average is almost the same as Marquis' over one season, only at a higher level and obviously over a longer period of time. C.Washington banged in a few lower down the order and that really worked out for us, didn't it? If Smith (and Wells) go, we're double fucked up top and putting all of that on the unproven could be a tad rash.

Hogan would be an epic signing but the problem would be his wages. Isn't he on 40k or something? I can't see him accepting a drop for us.

This is what I don't get re the Smith debate... I'm with you Hal. There is no debate as far I'm concerned and it would be a silly move to sell him. Bottom line is his stats don't lie at this level and so (for all his limitations) they can't be argued against. The only valid reason to sell him is if Warburton opts to play without wingers.

Got get these things down in black and white now to save arguments at a later date 😁 Depends who has targeted the players Wests. Judging by the latest three signings, reports indicate they are all Warbuton's targets, not Les'. Warbs even got on a plane to France to meet Barbet in person to convince him to come. So really the credit or blame on how these players turn out will be on him.

Both will be entitled to praise or criticism in equal measure, as presumably they would both be in agreement in terms of signing someone. If they aren’t, then they shouldn’t be coming.
But the reality is that those who dislike Les will blame him at any opportunity and give the manager most of the praise for the good things. There will no doubt be those that want to criticise the manager regardless.
And almost certainly, a few that can’t wait to blame both. 😂 Quite possibly before we play Stoke.

I hope he cut his own salary too. Aof les has rendered his own job irrelevant.

Warburton will pick his targets and Ferdinand will agree or disagree. The same as he did last year to stop McLaren getting Thorne and Martin.

Got get these things down in black and white now to save arguments at a later date 😁 From what I can tell mate, only 1 person signing any players this summer! As I've been saying for a while, all Les brings to the table is the occasional youngster and lads that Spurs are done with!

You're saying Les actively stopped us signing Thorne and Martin? Probably more accurate to say that we couldn't afford all the loans that McLaren wanted. The problem last summer was Les and McLaren between them didn't have any idea when it came to signing players within our budget. Hence we ended up with 3 expensive loans, a 36 year old free transfer on big wages and huge gaping holes all over the squad. Seems we are doing much more sensible business this summer!
