Could he have sealed a multi million pound move to Burnley today?

Dykes was very good today. Like he woke up from winter sleep. was a proper quality 60mins from him today no complaints at all. Begs questions why he does that (overall performance) like one in every 7or 8 games

I think today disproved the myth about Lyndon being shit. Put service in and he will score, end of conversation

Watched him closely today.
He always seemed slow to react, also seems never on his toes and at times instead holding ball up and laying it off he tries to beat players.
Having said that 2 great headers today and denied a hattrick by the keeper.
How can a player be so poor and then perform like today...baffling

I’m not a dykes mega fan or anything like that just think he gets unfair criticism. A strikers job is to put the ball in the net but that’s very hard to do with dog shit service. Today we put quality balls into the box and you saw the outcome. He’s not shit, he’s not a donkey he just needs quality. As any striker does. Austin and gray included. That where our issue lies. Chair for example wants to do it all on his own but he’s not adel tarrabt. Poor delivery. Set pieces have been generally poor deliveries. It doesn’t matter who you have up top at this level, if the service is poor the results will be poor. He’s not a top end striker who can make something out of nothing. You won’t get that for 2 million quid in this day and age. Play to his strengths as we did today and he’s more than capable. Strikers and goalkeepers are easy targets. You’ve only got to look at his performances for the sweats to realise theres a player there…..if you utilise him properly

Good post Greg but you make it sound like he gets no service at all. He misses glaring chances regularly or he’s absent when the balls goes in the box
Today he was right place right time so I’m hoping it’s now clicked in his head. When I say he’s shit Im Not actually referring to the goals tally Im referring to his overall contribution as most games he’s done nothing and not scored. Today was opposite!! had he not scored two goals he still contributed as he won headers, held it up and brought others into the game he never ever does that and it was excellent to watch so the goals on top were the icing on the cake
Fair play to him he’s set the standard anything Less then that is not good enough. What he can’t do is make us wait 6weeks for that level of performance again. If we fancy 2nd place he’s got turn up week in week out like Willock as he’s the talisman

Maybe penny has dropped - hope so. I’ve never worked out why we’ve not improved his movement (until today?) when the best CF we’ve ever had is sitting in the directors’ box. I completely get Greg’s point about service but that doesn’t explain why he was charging around like Usain Bolt on heat today when he usually looks like he just can’t be arsed and the CBs get a day off.

Was having a similar conversation with a mate about Dykes up in Coventry. I've always backed Dykes cos I've seen him play extremely well for both Scotland and QPR. The issue is he goes on these prolonged runs where his head goes down and he doesn't do anything. This season there have been games where I've come away and not been able to mention 1 significant contribution he's made. Hard to defend that when it happens week after week.
Clearly he is something of a confidence player. When he turns up and plays like he did yesterday it really makes me confused as to what's been going on the last 3 months. I wonder if we utilise sports psychologists at the club? If we do, Dykes is exactly the sort of character that could probably benefit. There has to be a psychological reason, some sort of mental block perhaps that hampers him in some games.
Hopefully this is the start of another purple patch though. If Dykes starts banging them in every game we are in really good shape for promotion.

A reason for his lack of goals in matches prior to yesterday`s victory could be the injury he has struggled with for a few months now. His pace looked out this world yesterday. His surging run for one of his goals also.

I don't believe for a minute he's been carrying an inury Shania. The manager normally does a good job of rotating and protecting players that are struggling with knocks etc. There has been nothing that I've noticed to suggest he's been doing that with Dykes.

Dykes is a half decent striker who we a small fee for and someone who will net a good return is sold. Not a natural but he is not the worst we have had either.

This is the issue though 73. On his day (like yesterday), I think he's actually one of the best we've had at this level. The issue is that we've sat through months of truly woeful performances from him to see that performance.

I guess that is why got him for what we did as a consistent striker would cost 3 or 4 times what Dykes did. Washington was a higher fee and compared to him Dykes is like Lewnandowski.

But In his case, who should do his job? Not say he is a world beater far from it, but atm he is better than CA and AG at playing the lone striker role. Just my opinion though. On the flip side: Maybe he played for a transfer to Brighton yesterday...
