In the situation he found himself in where he shot wide from distance, he could have still taken a touch before getting a shot off. Either away from the defender or what about diagonally across the defender so he’s smack bang between them and the ball. Likelihood is he draws a foul as last man meaning the defending sees red and we get a penalty. As they say, it’s not rocket science. No way. If he had taken a touch the ball would have been run away from him. His decision was right imo. |

Just seen the replay. Great headed goal by him last night. Good technique too. Again, evidence of what he can do with the right service.
Steve Clarke was watching on from the stands.
Hopefully he'll have a good Euros too and get that move.

Dykes should look at the run Isak makes to score Newcastle’s first goal yesterday. Something even remotely similar in a handful of games this season would have increased his goal tally massively, given he has the players behind him to deliver the pass.

Dykes just can't seem to read the game. There was a moment v Leeds when Willock could have put him through and he ran towards Willock, instead of away from him to receive the pass. Still, fair play to him for the last two games in which he's done well. Thing is, we all know his pattern now: 2 decent games will always be preceded and followed by 10 poor ones.

dykes would score an own goal, armstrong would be offside and frey would be so slow that the the pitch eventually naturally decays, slopes and causes the ball to roll away. |

Totally agree. I bet there are some fans who will be turning him into some sort of I-told-you-so hero forgetting that he’s been here four seasons now. Even though he’s not very good just putting in the effort he’s shown recently would have helped the team enormously. He’s cheated us.

Not saying he’s looked a world beater but if you had just seen us last four games or so you would think he was a decent standard Championship centre forward. Shows he can do it. So was it lack of effort or lack of belief?
