This is why I’m not such a fan of 4-2-3-1 and prefer a 4-3-3. With the 4-2-3-1 when the full backs are pushed high up the opposition end of the pitch it only really leaves 4 QPR players to defend counter attacks (outfield players, not including the keeper), with a 4-3-3 and the full-backs pushed on you still have 5 players attacking and 5 defending. I think it’s a better balanced system all round.
Been telling him this for years but he wont listen. It's more tactically flexible, helps an average squad get on the front foot.
BUT - not such a great system with slow ball and that's warburtons trade mark.
Football changed when France won the WC with less possession but Warbs still dreams of tiki taka......
I also think that 4-2-3-1 isn’t very flexible when it comes to fitting players into the system. You obviously have your back 4, a sitting/defensive midfielder, a deep siting passer/playmaker, 3 attacking midfielders and a centre forward. With other systems you can change the types of players within the system to suit the opposition, style of play you are executing on the day. For example a formation with 3 midfielders, whether 4-3-3 or 5-3-2 etc, you can have say 2 defensive midfielders and a playmaker, perhaps if you are setting up as a counter-attacking side. You could have 1 defensive midfielder, 1 playmaker and a box-box ball carrying midfielder, if you are trying to be more possession based and more offensive. 4-2-3-1 is a very rigid system in terms of the type of player from your squad that can be incorporated into it.

Yes, better players than we can afford? if that is the answer, I agree with you I think it is, then surely we got stop kicking managers and players as you can only get a tune out of what you have to play with. If there substandard why we expecting Stella outcomes Not question directly to you Al just something I’m pondering. We need reasonable expectations I'm not, but it is frustrating when you see us so good at times showing we CAN do it. Maybe that is the difference between half decent and top quality? Like I posted elsewhere about thinking all the mentality stuff the foreigners go on about is bollocks - starting to think it isn't.

Rock n hard place init. Football a entertainment for punters, but its primarily a business and results driven. Not many can provide both to keep all happy. So do you play sexy attractive and entertain,or clinical, stifling to get result.

So do you play sexy attractive and entertain,or clinical, stifling to get result. Ideally the team should be able to do both within the 90 minutes, it should be flexible to play attractive, attacking, entertaining football and have the ability to stifle opposition teams when required and when it suit QPR to do so. Right now I’d stay with how the team are playing and see if a few of the chances created get scored and a few of the defensive individual errors are remedied. If the team keep losing and moving down the table, I’d be looking at changing things to stop the leaking of goals.

God knows where we might have been without the injures on George Thomas and Amos. Another issue is the fact that I thought Albert Adomah was a better player than the one we have seen so far. Based on this, It could be that I should have given Warburton a little more time and leeway before judging him too hard. I don`t know..

A few good results will take a lot of pressure off the team and manager, but certain underlying problems remain, lack of experience, squad depth. Hopefully management have realised this and will try to address these problems in January and end of season transfer windows.

Doesn’t tend to influence games when he comes on. Need to see a bit more from him especially considering he supports the club. You would expect 100% at all times

I also think that 4-2-3-1 isn’t very flexible you can say that again. If he cant speed up the play a bit and do the obvious (4-3-3 ) I'd sooner he played 4-4-2 diamond than 4-2-3-1.
The big problem with us going forward is slow slow ball, when you combine that with one up top you aint going anywhere. This issue goes back to JFH days.

I wish he'd try something different. Can even predict the subs and possibly when. Bonne for Dykes 80,Willock off 65, Ball for Cameron, and BOS once he looks really pissed off with life.

Let’s hope they can stick a couple of chances away and take the 3 points. A win will be good for the confidence of the players

Think we've lost plenty of times with him in as well but whoever pulls on the shirt I hope they perform.
