Let's face it, the bottom line is QPR are a poorly run club.
When was the last time we were well run?...Bill Power?...Jim Gregory?...

Bulstrode would have done well but for the fact he died not long after taking control. Signed a few decent players with Trevor Francis as manager

You could argue that the previous ownership were. Targeted promotion and achieved it, huge kit sponsorship with Gulf Air and Lotto. Yes they were in it for the sale but they did spend a few bob when they took over and ultimately were there in 10-11 season. Not 5he best human beings but were winners

Mr Gregory. No question about it. He put us on the map and everyone since has done their damndest to take us off if. Other than the backs to the wall stuff under Ollie first time round, Gerry managing first time round, and that amazing two years with Neil, it's largely been a struggle.

Fulham Park Rangers... That showed how little was understood about football.

Yes goes back to Jim Gregory for me. Often though it's not the owners it's the calibre of staff you have doing all the day to day chores at a club. To this end I feel the club has suffered since the day they got rid of Sheila Marson, she was great at her job and performed so many different tasks but was never really replaced.

Was a teen going off to play for school team one Sat a m and Ron Phillips was at bus stop in Kensal Rise. I said hello, miserable bastard ignored me😂 so I let my Arsenal and Spurs mates give him dogs abuse. Childish but very funny at the time. He was so glad to see the bus.

John Jensen's only goal for Arsenal, We were a decent team and was a great time to be a fan of Rangers. We were a very well run club back then. That was 1994, under Richard Thompson's ownership. The youngest chairman in Premiership history.

Remind me Stan, what went wrong with Chris Wright (another fan)? Something about a loan or not having money I think I remember?

Gerry Francis left for Spuds and Wilkins took over and wasted money on Hateley,Zelic and Hodge and were relegated. The Thompson’s sold all our players that they could and were determined to asset strip before they moved on having made a pigs ear of it. Thompsoms were not good owners for QPR imo.

Sparx, We sold Sinton and Darren Peacock before Les actually left and he went as wanted to get in the squad for Euro 96 which he did. Hodge was an ok buy by Francis before Les went and the damage was done when we never replaced Les and eventually bought Hateley who came onto the pitch on crutches. We were a well run club who could sniff our young lower league players and improve them.

Lets not forget that Gerry Francis was also rumoured to be paid a percentage of transfer sales. Richard Thompson was given a Silver Spoon by his Daddy at 24 and I still say asset stripped this club when he cocked it up.

Yes 73 I know some players left before Les..and yes we actually had scouts back then that knew what to look for..I could never accept the Thompsoms were good for QPR..They used to own all the major Racecourses in the UK and were only at QPR for what they could take out.

We were competitive until Ferdinand was sold and taking 25 goals out of your team will hurt any team. I was no Thompson fan but will say we did have a good model at that time.

After reading both articles that Stanley kindly posted yesterday regarding Chris Wright and Richard Thompson and then comparing them with our current owners there are some striking similarities and common themes that stand out with
Owners claiming the club runs at a loss. Owners bringing in previous fans favs to deflect flak. Owners admitting to huge very basic mistakes.
The most shocking quote was from Chris Wright claiming” football is a dishonest business with back handers going on all the time..the whole bung process is rife in football “
If all of this is true why is it that Jim Gregory managed to drag us out of the 3rd Division to the Premiership and Europe whilst upgrading our ramshackle Stadium.

If all of this is true why is it that Jim Gregory managed to drag us out of the 3rd Division to the Premiership and Europe whilst upgrading our ramshackle Stadium. A) A very good businessman, probably the most astute in our history. Former second-hand car salesman. Passionate, ambitious and driven. B) Brilliant at recruitment and knowing how and when to delegate. C) Think it was his full time job. So a very hands on and day to day approach to running the club. Was close to all the players and negotiated contracts himself, in the days long before agents, but was still fair in the main. D) Generally well liked and respected by players, staff and fans. A smaller but very united family friendly club with everyone pulling in the same direction. E) Let Managers MANAGE and coach. None of this DoF bollocks to complicate things unnecessarily. Kept things simple and ran a tight ship. Things were never perfect of course, but those would be my reasons from memory and what I've read and heard about the man. =========== EDIT: Added E)

Reminded of that old story when Jim called the Doc to a meeting to sack him for the second time:
Jim: I'm afraid it's not working out, Tommy.... Doc: You can't leave, Jim, the club needs you.
Lol.

With hindsight Jim Gregory has admitted he shouldn`t have sacked Alex Stock. But nobody is perfect etc.... I was going to ask why you thought that Shania as it certainly looks harsh but history will show it was successful. i haven’t seen any articles describing why Alex Stock was replaced though.

Good article Shania...it certainly appears a very harsh decision to sack him by the owner and understand your thoughts now.

And here is a piece stating that Ron Phillips QPR club secretary under Jim Gregory prevented Les Ferinand going permanently to Besiktas in 1987. Imagine a QPR without Les Ferdinand?..irc: qprreport.proboards.com/thread/21988

I don't think old Jim was averse to the odd bit of dodgy stuff. Different times.
