Racially abused whilst playing for Ireland v Kuwait.
Ireland rightly walked off the pitch in protest.

I don't think Armstrong will get much of a look in myself Corbs. Until he works out how to get himself fit for 90 minutes of football, he will be nothing more than a back up player.
You might well be right on the style of play though.

You might well be right on the style of play though. hopefully the new performance coach can get armstrong fit enough for regular game time. i still believe that he'll be a regular prem player within the next few years, he reminds me of an aston villa benteke. one thing you could never take away from wycombe was their fitness and work rate, they had a knack for getting previously injury prone players fit and working hard so here's hoping they can do the same with armstrong.

Corbs, I very much doubt it's what Armstrong is doing in training that is the problem. Probably more likely what he's doing off the pitch. What he's eating, how he's living his social life etc. that's the issue.
When Taarabt wasn't fit to play he was apparently smoking shisha every day. Plenty of other players have issues with discipline when it comes to diet, sleep schedules etc. Let's face it, it's probably a tough thing for a young player to be strict with themselves when all of their mates of a similar age are likely doing the polar opposite.

i don't doubt it but he doesn't come across as a huge ego like adel so hopefully he can wake up so to speak and get his head down.

Scandalous that Beale found he hadn’t been given any nutritional or dietary advice by the club. Amazing in this day and age if true I can’t remember his exact words now but Beale said the lad was cooking for himself and not choosing healthy food. Also liked a takeaway. No one at club had advised him (nor anyone else for that matter) about diet and fitness. That, and the medical issues, was what Beale was looking into. No reason to doubt him then, these were the early days.

I didn't actually know all of that Al. As I've pointed out many times, aside from the financial side of things we aren't a very well run club. The new DoF will have a lot of stuff like this to fix.

I'd love you to be right but I don't think he is anywhere near the level of player we think he is. Rapid & a beast, yes (causes chaos) - but technically he is all over the shop. His finishing is atrocious.

For me, Armstrong is all potential. He needs to vastly improve his fitness and probably boil his weight down a bit. Clearly he's naturally very well built, but what is he doing in the gym?
I'd suggest if he wants to be successful his gym work should be almost completely cardio. He doesn't want to be gaining weight, his style of play isn't suited to carrying a lot of mass on his upper body.
He also needs a lot more game time, and he won't get that unless he's able to play 90 minutes.

I would hope and like to think a professional footballer in current age would be able to self assess it might be sensible to eat sensibly without the instruction of the club. Every man and his dog on the street knows the benefits of it and our living in most cases does not centre on it. club can assist by taking it to extra levels and providing right diet at the training ground but what about a bit of self responsibility?
Also if Beale said it it has to be taken with huge pinch of salt, geezer is bullshitter plain and simple! says what he wants for the occasion and audience just like the fat cunt Boris Johnson. Plus bit unprofessional to be talking about players diets as not fair on the player as he then judged on it going forwards based on potential half truths from the manager.

Most young footballers are as thick as two short planks and that’s quite apparent every time they are interviewed- like, y’know, mentality, funny haircut.
Plus it’s the club’s job and responsibility to nurture fit athletes not leave it to chance.

I’m sure they do when under there supervision but once they go home it’s down to them to still apply and live clean Plenty of examples of players who could not Adel, Gazza etc
Certainly should educate but it’s down to the individual ultimately.
I’m 20 and professional footballer should I have a Big Mac every day or not?? Does the club really need to tell pro footballer of any age answer is no?

I personally think the club should be educating young players on off the field stuff, like diet and lifestyle choices.
I also think it's an absolute no brainer that every player should have a tailored diet and exercise plan.
Surely the above are absolute basics in the modern professional game?

Neil Banfield said when he was at QPR that it was almost impossible to give young players guidelines in general.

Maybe not everyone is gonna listen to the advice Shania. It doesn't mean we shouldn't be making an effort to educate young players on this stuff.

All this talk about Armstrong having a bad diet because he was went to McDonalds after a game.
I posted up an article on here with Beale doing similar at other clubs by pre planned visits to players residence
Armstrong suffers with cramps in his legs, plenty on the net why some young players suffer with cramp more than others.

I’m in minority but when I see him speak in a thick Irish accent and he black it seems alien. Like back in day going away to like Ipswich Oxford etc and thinking black lads got to be rangers till it kicked off with them and their funny accents😀
