You seriously think Armstrong gets in CB faces 😳 he’s dominated most games by CBs only really gets better of anyone when ball is out wide and he’s able charge forward. His goal and assist record suggests he don’t worry too many defenders in this league. He don’t even come close to using his physique enough and that is his only asset. He shouldn't be anywhere near first team football at this level but, as said above, beggars can't be choosers. That said, the fans are partly to blame because the way they convinced themselves we had someone very special on our hands and the club, trying to appease fans and deflect attention from the shower of shit the club is nowadays, couldn't wait to give the fans 'one of their own'. He's a player who had scored 4 goals in a dozen matches 3 divisions below us before being elevated to 'hero status' by some.

Love the optimism and positivity Corbs but if you can’t score goals relegation contenders is exactly what you are. The harsh reality is that many thought we had the new Clive Allen in Sinclair Armstrong when, in fact, Clive Dunn would be as effective... And all this stuff about what else he brings is missing the point... Strikers who don't score goals are usually as popular as flat chested strippers for a reason. Thats very harsh, give the guy a chance.

If he's not up the required standard at the moment then we have a responsibility for our sake and his to be honest and take the right steps to ensure we don't ruin his career. Pretending that everything is perfect and he's just unlucky helps no one.

By 'X factor' I mean that that programme sets out to convince average and poor contestants that they are amazing. The 'X Factor Generation' is also now a term used to describe the practice of teachers to tell kids they can be anything they want to be and overlook obvious flaws. I know what you're saying about giving experience but two things: 1) We're in the results business, not an entertainment one. 2) He's not learning anything and appears to be going backwards at times. Some fans were singing his praises after Cardiff but, and you'll have to take my word for this, I wasn't. Even Mark Hately had the occasional decent game...

Not easy to develop as a striker in our current team. I mean who can he learn from?

Dykes Kolli Armstrong Kelman
Possibly the poorest striking department in the league.

At this stage in his career ideally he should be an option to bring on against tired defenses not necessarily playing full matches.

Now it’s clear why youngsters are rarely given a chance in the first team.
It’s crazy that we’ve all watched Dykes for nearly 3 seasons and mostly agreed he’s rubbish yet some now want him in the team now ahead of Armstrong.🙄
Colback costs us a goal against Ipswich, then is responsible for 4 decent goal scoring opportunities for the opposition in the next game, gets sent off in the game after that and yet our fans want to rip into a 20yr old based on two below average performances😂🤣

Very unfair the criticism Armstrong is receiving recently, now it’s clear why youngsters are rarely given a chance in the first team. It’s crazy that we’ve all watched Dykes for nearly 3 seasons and mostly agreed he’s rubbish yet some now want him in the team now ahead of Armstrong.🙄 I think there's a middle ground. I've been less critical of Dykes than most over the years but I recognise his weaknesses. Both players bring different strengths to the table. E.g. There's no way Armstrong would have scored that header Dykes took the other night for the goal. But Armstrong has the strength and pace that Dykes lacks. We all know a striker's main job is to score goals. So far Armstrong has scored just one for us at senior level - a tap in that would have been harder to miss. So he clearly needs to up his ratio. Had he done that you can guarantee he'd be getting far less criticism on here.

Dykes scores one recent goal and all his previous misses and lack of working the CBs spanning two and a half seasons is forgotten, hardly a fair comparison Stan.

If you listen to some people he's one of the most feared forwards in the division and one of the better prospects in the country. Great discussion btw and one that you look at LFW and know that you'd be shouted down for having.

Dykes 1 in 4 (that a ratio is not good enough imo)
Armstrong 1 in 32 (that rate is defo not good enough)
I’ve always been of the belief striker should be hitting minimum 1 in 3 not sure what the average is across the league for striker but I’m guessing it’s about that. Can either or any of our strikers on our books become 1 in 3 🤷🏽♂️ probably not as they all seem to miss sitters.

I personally don’t think it’s fair to compare stats with both players, don’t think Armstrong has started enough games to be accurate especially for a 20yr old Take away Donkeys pens I seriously doubt he’s scored 15 goals from open play in nearly 3 seasons for us.

Essentially what my post compares are their relative strengths and weaknesses as strikers, which is fair Sparks. Is Armstrong still developing? Yes of course, and there's certainly more scope for that than Dykes, so hopefully he can continue to improve, particularly his finishing.

I've made the point that Armstrong has more scope for improvement than Dykes as he's a lot younger. So hopefully that continues, particularly where it's needed most, with his finishing.

However, the one thing both have in common is that they are playing frequently for the First Team and, as a consequence, both will be scrutinised and compared as fans try to understand the justification of either being worthy of that.

Armstrong has been thrown in with 2 cloggers and a ghost in MF meaning he’s feeding on scraps from long balls under a very primitive playing style under Ainsworth. Dykes has had much better service under previous managers and has proved beyond doubt he’s a ”DUD” if we are judging strikers purely on goals. Armstrong has pace and uses his physique but I genuinely fail to see what ability Dykes brings to the table on a regular basis?

Merely trying to objectively point out their respective strengths and weaknesses.

sparksNo. I think what that shows is how bloody bad the situation is. Everyone knows my opinion on Dykes. I think he’s a poor striker BUT he scores more than Sinclair Armstrong, he plays internationally where he gets great ratings and I think it’s simply a case of the best of a bad bunch. We are weak as piss in the striking department. Also, there is no harm in saying Armstrong Isn’t quite ready yet, he isn’t!
