AFCON has started today.
1st choice keeper for Senny’s Senegal (Mendy) has tested positive for COVID, so Senny is likely to start in their opening match tomorrow against Zimbabwe. Senegal's next group games are against Guinea on Friday and Malawi on Tuesday.
Illias Chair’s Morocco play Ghana on Monday, Comoros on Friday and Gabon on Tuesday.
Kakay’s Sierra Leone play 2019 winners Algeria on Tuesday, Ivory Coast on Sunday and Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
Anyone not making the knockout stage could potentially be available for Swansea at home on 25 January.

Was Mac Bonne not called up for Zimbabwe? Didn't even consider that when we were all chatting about recalling him.

Fair enough. Don't blame him to be fair. His career will be better served working on his club form than going to play for Zimbabwe.

A small island off the east coast I didn't even know existed. Thanks for the education! No Adel call-up I see.

Senegal, Cameroon and Nigeria used to field great players in World Cup tournaments. Too many to mention in fact..

Doesn't make commercial sense though does it? No bastard is gonna watch AFCON on the telly if the Euros are on. 😂 Even the guys in Africa would rather watch European football. I know this for a fact having lived there and travelled the continent.

Senny's Senegal are bookies favourites at the moment...
Senegal: 4-1 Algeria: 9-2 Cameroon: 7-1 Ivory Coast: 8-1 Egypt: 8-1 Morocco: 10-1 Nigeria: 10-1
Osman Kakay's Sierra Leone squad includes Steven Caulker - who plays club football with another ex R - Bright Osayi-Samuel at Fenerbahce. BOS didn't make the cut for Nigeria, so isn't at AFCON.

Senegal leave it late - Mané pen at 90 + 7 minutes gives them a 1-0 win. Super Senny's up and running

Why run the tournament during the principle football seasons? Tbf, this was rearranged from 2021 wasn't it? So I presume it's the same as the world cup in the respect. Or is it always during the season? Maybe it's too hot in Africa to host in the summer? It's not like Qatar where they have unlimited funds to make air con stadiums for a one off tournament.

Two games and two clean sheets for Senny - Senegal draw 0-0 with Guinea today.
Ilias is an unused sub in Morocco's 2-0 win against Comoros.

Chair off after half an hour, must be pretty gutting for him. Mendy was back in goal for Senegal, so Senny on the bench from now on. Still at least Chair and Senny are through to the knockout stage (shame, wanted to see them back home...) Osman Kakay's Sierra Leone play their last group game tomorrow.
