But why aren`t they doing that anymore? I seem to remember that Dickie lost the ball on a few occations and we conceded as a result of it. That is one reason perhaps. Its a good question, and one I would love to ask Warbs. You might be right. Are they instructed to keep it tighter at the back or have they lost confidence, or is it a lack of movement ahead? Having three at the back is supposed to add two more players to MF when in possession, though. I don't think the problem has been our formation. Just think MW has been picking the wrong starting 11. And when things have gone wrong he's been too slow to adapt. The exact same criticisms were levelled at him in the first half of last season, before things turned round from January '21. In the 70's and 80's 4-4-2 was far more fashionable. The fullbacks would make overlapping runs though, so they would still double as wingers, OR interchange that role with the two wide midfielders. Perhaps it's time for a return to that... But that's just it, the centre halves aren't breaking into midfield any more. Early in the season Dickie was charging forward and causing panic in opposition midfields/ defences - but none of the centre halves break forward now. So even against very mediocre attacks we have three big, immobile lumps sitting at the back, not contributing anything going forward. And with Field and Stef playing equally negatively (and virtually as deep) its no wonder we aren't scoring goals. For me this formation could work, but it needs to press forward more and it needs one central defender and at least one midfielder to break into forward positions as you describe - and actually hit some forward passes. I don't think the issue is particularly with the personnel - lots of fans cried out for Amos and he came in and was arguably even worse. Warbs dropped Johansen who had been badly off form. Last game we changed the goalkeeper, left wing back midfield and striker. He has actually made quite a few changes in terms of players but not a great deal has changed in terms of performance or result. Really don’t want Dickie bombing forward he’s awful at it. He’s cost us more goals doing it then he’s created This. 100%. He’s far too slow to do it and gets caught in possession easily and too often. You guys beat me to it.

Interesting you guys think that. I mean he has been caught in possession, for sure. But recently on a rare foray forward I remember Dickie slinging in a great cross from the right wing that probably should have produced a goal. And of course he was scoring a few spectacular long range goals.
If you are right, though, and the centre halves have been told to stay behind the half way line, fine - but then why aren't the midfield players showing for the ball and risking turning their man rather than just tapping it straight back to the centre half looking all pleased with themselves like they have actually achieved anything? Someone has to move the ball through the thirds, surely?

Interesting starting 11 with no strikers?! Can't decide if that's good or bad thing. Can't be worse what it's been?

No strikers in the starting 11 We dont need strikers according to breadman. Amos bombed out after one start. We better win tonight, for breadmans sake.

Willock false nine. Might be a bit sophisticated for us😁 Seriously, if that is the idea I would question Field Johansen and Hendrick - one of them needs to be something different. Play Amos where he should be, leave out Field.

Sorry, just seen it's probably Willock up top. BBC had it displayed with Willock and Johansen behind chair.

No strikers in the starting 11 And yet MW told the DoF he was happy with his 3 strikers. Interesting timing to say the least.
