So have we given up on another striker. Celar. Dykes. Frey. Dont look to promising with week and half before season starts. We probably need to ship out Dykes first and now he has gone and got himself injured…

Given how Marti only plays one up front, for me, Celar needs to be given a run of games to settle in (nearly scored on Sat with an instinctive strike, but for a good save from Sheff keeper)
At least we have better options up front now too, with Frey and a possibly resurgent Dykes
Perhaps it's done Dykes some motivational good now that he's not a guaranteed starter.
Also, with Dembele and Saito I think we can expect better service for our strikers this season, which is always essential of course.

celar would be my number 9 simply because he comes off the back of a few good seasons in a decent league and hasn't been given a proper chance to settle in yet. frey has looked good too though.

Given how Marti only plays one up front,
That needs to change as and when. We aren't that tactically flexible and if we're serious about improving we need to get with the prog

Yeah, I mean he starts with one up top; but to be fair to him he does sometimes throw on a 2nd striker in 2nd half of games, depending on how game is going.

I am just putting this out there but I think we will score a lot more goals this season than last.
Feel free to bump this poster at the end of the season when it has turned out to be another bout of false optimism from me !

Sticking my head on the block but interesting that Dykes has scored 3 in his last 5 league games for us - some as a sub. He certainly is not top of my list as he has missed too many easy chances but I think he could do better with better service.
Obvious that Chair does not like to pass to him but with Saito and Dembele he may do better. Example his goal on Saturday. Saito went outside then cut back inside to roll the ball to Dykes to score. If that had been Chair he would have twisted another time or 2 and either won a corner or tried a shot from an impossible angle.
So maybe Chairs injury, if not too long, could be a blessing in disguise and give us the opportunity to see how Dykes or Celar or Frey and maybe even Smyth get on with some decent wingers.
Tin hat ready.

I think the combo of Dembele, Saito and Chair (whenever all 3 are fit at the same time) will create a lot of opportunities for our strikers.

Tin hat ready. Yes, fair points but missing the one thing that is at the root of the pelters he gets. You can accept he’s not the best and that he gets poor service but in the vast majority of games he plays he contributes nothing if he doesn’t score. Complete myth that he’s a handful. It’s easy for CBs to play him. Look at Frey, far less mobile but far more physical.

thing is with dykes is he's missed some right sitters over the years, it's not one or two but there have been a few. doesn't impact games most of the time (1 in 8 i think is the consensus on this board?) and is just generally absent most of the time.

Great finish Saturday but still has the brain of Worzel Gummidge.
Expect the usual 6-7 games of shit that follows a half decent performance from donkey.
If he proves us all wrong, great!

In all honesty ive been praising Dykes in the hope someone comes in for him.
Looks like someone has?
Probably stating the obvious Celar to early to judge but none of our current strikers are good enough.

What's that old saying, if you're getting on the end of things, you will score goals.
Here's hoping.
Need work on attacking balls put across the box, however.

do you think we will replace Dykes with another striker before the deadline? Who knows? Not long to find out. We have been linked with a couple Frey, Celar, with Kolli and Lloyd from the dev squad may be deemed enough...

do you think we will replace Dykes with another striker before the deadline? As Stanley says its anyone's guess, but its going to be a hard sell. We certainly aren't going to have the money for anyone amazing and Celar has clearly been signed as first choice. Effectively anyone new would be one of three players competing for one place. A Prem club looking to loan out a striker is probably going to want guarantees about starting. Maybe we will try with what we've got and re-assess in Jan?

frey has to be the starting number 9 now going forward surely?
been excellent this season, 3 goals (already halfway to what the cabertosser got last year), 2 assists and a genuine line leader up top. okay, he's never going to play the white swan of swan lake but goodness gracious he's been effective this season and works so hard for the team. dykes might have been more technically proficient but frey is everything we hoped dykes would be for us and most importantly he knows where the back of the net is and is confident to take a shot whenever he can.
gotta feel for zan in a way though lol but it's a results based business and frey is excelling at the moment.
