Definitely not scientific but I find myself judging by who I’d like to be having a beer with on a match day. Micah Richards and Wrighty make me laugh, Shearer has a sense of humour (on Top 10 podcasts) and really knows the game, likewise Danny Murphy. Jill Scott would be good company and that female from cricket, Isha Ghua would hold her own.

Karen Carney was excellent in her 5live days as co-com / pundit. No messing about, always to be the point and able to see the tactical picture. What happened? She’s fucking terrible.
TV happened. People behave differently on the box, you can't get away with anything, you're more exposed and it just doesn't work for some people. It always feels more scripted.

Women who have been involved in football, either as players or managers, are just as capable of high-level punditry as men of the same ilk. IMO sex has nothing to do with it, it's far more to do with intelligence, acumen and the ability to communicate. For example, Emma Hayes can provide a detailed analysis of tactics that is the equal or better of any male pundit.
And let's face it, most male pundits and commentators are fucking awful. Savage - ugh - can't stand listening to his monotonous drivel. Jenas, mind-bogglingly boring. Michael Owen the same. And nearly all male commentators come out with such hyperbolic, cliched crap I can barely listen. In fact the best thing about football on Amazon prime was that you could turn the commentary off and just have the ambient crowd noise. The same applies to female commentators; Robyn Cowen is dreadful; Vicki Sparks I find the vocal equivalent of scraping your nails down a blackboard.
For me, the only decent female commentator is Pien Meulensteen (daughter of Rene Meulensteen, so she has a good footballing pedigree), and the only decent male commentator is Conor McNamara, who is superb.
