Sixth day of fucking Covid, still feeling shite, if improving, still testing positive, so couldn't have gone anyway. Would have been nice to follow the match remotely, however.

Think you should shut down the whole country until Christmas out of respect.

Odd decision. Would have been more emotional and respectful way to pay tribute to her in the stands tomorrow.

Can imagine some clubs under financial pressure with rising costs will be secretly livid about money lost with games called off

Most other sports going ahead tomorrow so why is the football off I can only assume that racing, cricket, golf etc., cancelled for one day and in the case of each football team, the next match is their one day.

Now you will all be stuck at home all day for the next fortnight, cursing the day tv was invented, because all the channels are showing reruns of her 70 years reign. Not to mention the memorial service, which will be shown on repeat until you hope for another pandemic or world war 3, just to get a break from it all.

It's the wrong call, I think, to cancel the football. But not just wrong, it's bizarrely wrong. What would the Queen want? Surely nothing more than for her subjects to come together in celebration, not be shut away in separation; that's like some kind of punishment. To what end? We should be celebrating this amazing life, as loudly and raucously as we can, and I think that's what most people would like to do, to celebrate her life and all life. That is kind of the point of death.

There is huge public sympathy and respect - sad tho this death is, it has probably enforced public affection for the monarchy; but I suspect this very long period of semi enforced mourning will start to grate with some and might be counter productive. All the more so when it was such a long life clearly well lived - there does need to be some national mourning for sure but agree that could be done in celebratory ways too by bringing people together

Got text yesterday evening grassroots football cancelled too. So a 7 year old has stay home for weekend too
Totally get events yesterday and day of funeral being off that’s right thing but either side should just crack on. Not sure how me sat home on my arse or going down pub as bored indoors is showing respect

I think the fear of football fans ruining the silence or booing the anthem scared them into the decision. Wouldn't look good around the world if that happened.
I've heard football will be on next weekend but not in London, so our game gets cancelled again.
All the more reason for us to sell out Millwall away!
