Family day today, so having seen us 2-0 down, was delighted to have come back to draw against a form side.

Liked look of low from first impressions Wouldn’t have got a point without him. Completely lfted the side with his direct pacey runs and put the wind up Reading. Needs to start next Saturday.

Hendricks second not even close to being offside. Not a bad strike for his 1st. Where was that when he was with us!

I see Critchley being quoted as saying Roberts did not come off injured as has been posted on here but had run out of gas.

Another shit performance with a lucky escape. No real change noticed. We have a group of players who don't really care.

Heard his interview and clearly wants the team to do well for the fans. Given time and with the right players he will turn it around. An on song Willock would help him no end

I don't think that's an accurate assessment in the slightest. The second half fightback showed that. And his record since arriving shows he's turning things around, here: rfantasyisland.boards.net/post/130714/threadI find the level of impatience by some fans for a new manager quite staggering at times to be honest.

Stan, listening to the first few words of Critchleys interview where he says “there wasn’t too much wrong with the first half” makes me despair.
Rightly or wrongly that’s not what I want to hear from our manager, I know he’s not going to call the players out after getting a draw from a losing position but at the very least be honest and say we didn’t play at our best for the game.
It’s fine to quote our points record since him joining has improved but have you been honestly impressed with the performances because I haven’t.
A scrappy win away at a below average PNE that could have gone either way, other than Luton and Sheff Utd we have played some poor teams in this division.
Having a manager with a dull personality does nothing for me as a fan but more importantly I suspect the players also smell a weakness in him.

But nothing could be further from the truth in my opinion - the 2nd half showed that, and it was patently obvious that they DID care.

Stan, listening to the first few words of Critchleys interview where he says “there wasn’t too much wrong with the first half” makes me despair. Fair enough Rightly or wrongly that’s not what I want to hear from our manager, I know he’s not going to call the players out after getting a draw from a losing position but at the very least be honest and say we didn’t play at our best for the game. I think he knows we weren't at our best first half. That came across in his interview because of what he revealed he told the players at half time. It’s fine to quote our points record since him joining has improved but have you been honestly impressed with the performances because I haven’t. Not particularly. But the main thing is that he appears to have stopped the rot from the previous 6 games before he joined in which we had totally capitulated, having lost 5 out of 6 games. His results since then indicate that he's turning things round as we've only lost once in 5 league games. The performances will come. But at this stage the results are more important. Having a manager with a dull personality does nothing for me as a fan but more importantly I suspect the players also smell a weakness in him. I don't find him dull at all and think he comes across quite well. He's animated on the touchline too which I like. So again I think that just comes down to opinions. He did well at Blackpool and his achievements there speaks for itself. No sign at all he didn't have the players onside and it came as a huge blow when he left there. I respect your opinions Sparks even if I don't agree with them all. So it's all makes for healthy debate as far as I'm concerned. And I know that we agree on many other things.

Thanks for your considered reply Stan, end of the day it’s difficult to argue against your points about turning it around irrespective of the quality of opposition.Time will tell.
Interesting that you don’t find him dull in his public persona but again I would struggle to think of any other current managers or coaches in football that come across as such an easy going type in a ruthless profession.

Second half was a massive improvement and it felt like we’d go on and win the game when first goal went in. Reading players were arguing amongst themselves with Tom Ince doing a classic impression of his dad by moaning at everyone. We still have the major problem of not scoring when we get a great chance - we were shit first half but had the chance to go one up and set the pattern for the game. No need to state who was in the wrong place at the time.

He is dull but the journos and interviewers are shit, especially the guy from WLS, so the videos will never make for riveting entertainment but he is more animated on the touch line than fat boy and cliche man put together so that’s more important than performing for an interview.

Roberts was on touchline and signalled to bench he needed to come off. Thought injury at time but since confirmed as tiredness which is fair enough.
At the end of the day it was not a weird decision by the manager to sub him, as was being debated, it was player indicating he needed to come off.
Thought Roberts put decent shift in yesterday and I’ve been critical of him in recent games.
Wondering who drops out to put Stef back in. Getting few options back now.

Probably drop Willock as his form is poor and start with Chair and Iroegtim. that was my thought but means one of those playing wide or change of formation. I prefer Tim more advanced but central. Perhaps roberts goes Willocks place Tim advances and stef plays beside field?
