Sounds obscene, wage bill of just under 250k a week.
But Burnley's bill is twice that, and they can afford it. That's why the championship is dividing into two leagues, basically those with chute payments and those without.

Tyler Roberts shown as being the top earner at £22k per week.
Very much doubt that we're paying that though, expect Wolves are copping at least half of that.

Would take that with a handful of salt, personally. A random website doesn't know player's salaries.
But just entertaining it for a minute; Roberts aside, those weekly wages are probably about the level I would expect tbf and dont seem high at all (in the context of footballer's salaries!). Dozzell being 2nd highest earner is lol mind.

It’s not the wages that are shocking for me it’s the huge amount of players in that top list, there are 30.
Of those 30 it’s not too difficult to pick out just 8 players on paper that could be seen to be worth a wage and I would bin the rest

i've seen different figures on other sites. plus dozzell as our highest earner?! (our players). we signed him on the back of mediocre yet high potential performances from a then upper midtable league 1 ipswich side. no way would we pay him 13k a week on the back of that lol.
plus taylor richards at 11k a week. not a chance imo.

I still remain unconvinced that our club needs a DOF system for a number of reasons. What are their actual day to day duties outside of each transfer window? What’s the difference between being Head of Recruitment and a DOF and do we need both? Does it warrant a salary on par and along with what a decent manager costs? How would you go about finding a good one and how would our numpty owners trust them to be spending their money wisely? If you were a successful manager would you really want your reputation ruined by somebody else dictating what tools you can have to do your job properly?

We have a dof because it fashionable in footy and our lot like to think they progressive. That’s why we call manager, coach now.

Call the role whatever we want. But a squad 30 and every manager coming in getting what he wants adding to it screams we do need something to prevent this.
Perhaps the problem is not the DOF role but more the person in it and how we execute it. Having people pleasers as owners don’t help.
Just my opinion

A new DOF coming in every season has the same chance of being a failure as a new manager doing the same, what proven skill set does a DOF have over a manager. I would prefer the money saved on a DOF salary to attract a decent manager and search for a analytics recruitment specialist, I would go even as far as writing into their contracts an opportunity of % of transfer fees brought into the club like Francis had as manager.

At Bolton they’ve done a ‘John Lewis’ on Ian Evatt and made him a shareholder. Smart move. Keep an eye on him, seems to have what it takes.

But think the idea of a director of football is he lays down the overall strategy so doesn't come and go ever season, even if the coach does. Typically he is someone slightly older. Dare I say it a Warbs type person...

But do we want year on year of me-to-you across the back 3/4 clocking up possession stats? We’re too quick to forget that when we were in a great position to kick on, show a bit of initiative and flair, he failed.

The only real strategy we have is to buy cheap and sell them on for profit, not too difficult for a manager to follow suit. Have you anyone else in mind as I really can’t see Warburton wanting to come back here.

I don’t blame him for Eel going to GR, he was never going to turn that down, but I’m not so sure he isn’t in some way culpable for the Wolves thing. I took a job once and left after a week because I’d been mis-led. Eel was looking for an out before GR landed in his lap. Eel rated himself (rightly or wrongly, who cares) so was he really expecting to work with Ramsey and Hall, never mind a pretty poor DOF.

Well it might be a bit unfair on managers/ head coaches but they are the ones required to motivate the players and get results. Totally agree in the case of Les its a scandal that his performance never seems to be reviewed as he is rewarded for failure - eight years in his case is way too long. But the director of football lays out the strategy and you don't want that changing every two minutes. So there is a balance. A good director of football would provide more support to the head coach. Its not Les's fault we have FFP and owners who can't or won't spend more money, but is his responsibility ultimately that our youth structure is not bearing more fruit and that we are not picking up the kind of players we can develop and sell at a profit. A good DoF would also have the authority to stand up to the head coach and say "no, you can't have a crocked 34-year-old centre half - these are the young up and coming ones our analysts have identified, choose one of these." Who else can I suggest? I have suggested a couple of times on here we just go all out to headhunt whoever is the number two to the head of data analysis/ recruitment/ DoF at Brentford and follow their model properly this time!
