Your explanation is controversial IMO as that line alone indicates Moore was very very poor as didn't even get playing time. if i, a 30yo man with a dadbod got the nod to play as our star striker for the next 120 games would that mean i'm better than moore and dykes simply because i've got more playing time? Sure, but would you? I'm 100 % sure neither you nor me would play a single minute

I like the fact that people are trying to persuade other people how to vote! If I want to vote for Lyndon Dykes, then I'm gonna vote for Lyndon Dykes. Thank you very much.

I like the fact that people are trying to persuade other people how to vote! If I want to vote for Lyndon Dykes, then I'm gonna vote for Lyndon Dykes. Thank you very much. That's absolutely fine mate, knock yourself out, its a free election (unlike in many countries). But anyone who voted Lyndon is clearly just emoting about how fucked off they currently are. And BTW, I don't blame them: I get it, I am too. But they are not IMHO making any objective assessment on the contribution of Lyndon v others. Which I THINK was the point of the poll, keeping in mind that the club has presumably had some pretty shite strikers since 1882. As Stanley has suggested, it is all about putting too much emphasis on today. Take a similar poll in a decade and I guarantee Lyndon will be a footnote, just as Pellicori is now but who drove us all absolutely nuts back in the day for being a colossal cunt. I also think BTW that limited tho Lyndon is, putting all this stuff online is probably not doing masses amounts of good to boost what little confidence our fragile squad currently has. And without confidence they are only going to get into a downward loop and we should all know by now where that ends... Is he Simon Stainrod or Garry Bannister or Johnny Byrne? Of course not. Is he about the level we are going to have to get used to given we will almost certainly have zero budget for a striker for several years? Probably. Is he one of 2/3 centre forwards at the club, none of whom seem to know where the net is but who we need to start performing and get behind? IMHO, yes.

Yes, but I think I phrased it wrong; it's a subtle difference, but here goes. It's not about the merits of the striker we're being told we've got wrong, per se, it's our reasoning that we're being told is wrong: wrong striker, because of wrong reasoning. SIAL has expressed it well, thus: "But anyone who voted Lyndon is clearly just emoting about how fucked off they currently are." However, he's wrong. That is not the criterion on which I've voted for Dykes.
And who's to say what the correct reasoning is? It is, absolutely, all about individual perspective. For example, if we said the criterion for worst striker was purely based on expectation versus reality, then I would say it was a toss-up between Sheron and Hateley, with Sheron shading it for me; "get me Sheron and I'll guarantee promotion" and all that. However the criterion that tops it for me, and Alan, if I may speak for him, is sheer irritation, over a very long period. This is quite different from "clearly emoting about how fucked off we are". I think I already explained that that was my reasoning, but now hopefully it's clear: Dykes wins it for me over all the others because by adding up a number of factors, where irritation over the longest period is paramount, then for me, he is the worst QPR stiker in living memory.

Plenty of members still haven't voted yet though mate. So yours could end up making all the difference. Indeed only by you and others abstaining does it make the poll less credible. He may be ahead now but doesn't mean it'll end that way.

Pretty sure I saw a post on here a couple of days ago saying polling was about to end so get in? I must have missed something. Re Dykes. I've seen nearly all of our glorious strikers in my time, and I honestly think Dykes is terrible, on and off the ball, right down there alongside the Maigas of this world. And even he managed a couple of goals in the prem.
I also think there are sound political reasons for voting for Dykes, which seem to me entirely legitimate.

Hal, reckon there's no harm in leaving it open a while longer as plenty here still haven't voted or have been offline. Probably unpin it soon though.

I’ve seen all the guys on the list and I’ve been weighing up the Dykes comments. Does he score lots of goals - no. Does he look dangerous - no. Does he work hard - nothing special - and does he give oppo CBs a hard time - no. Does he get good service - no - but when we do get a cross over is he usually in the right place - no. Has he been here long enough to see he’s not going to get any better - yes. Has the guy got any talent to suggest there’s something to work on - no. Have the fans been remarkably tolerant towards a player who clearly hasn’t got it - you bet they have.

Al, all of the above is true. He's still nowhere near the worst striker on that list though! Which was my point Tarbs. People are just ranting basically and using that poll to do it. I understand feelings are high at the moment but not sure he is the right scapegoat and how, indeed this will help in any way.

I understand feelings are high at the moment but not sure he is the right scapegoat and how, indeed this will help in any way. And as I made clear a couple of days ago, this was absolutely not the intended purpose of the poll: The poll's question was posed out of genuine interest and in all good faith. It certainly was not intended politically, so if anyone has voted Dykes mainly for that reason I'd urge them to change it to answer to the actual question.

Apologies then Stan. When we do badly I make a conscious decision to stay off these boards. I popped on and didn't read the whole thread so missed that. I just saw the headline result which seems to suggest that despite your best intentions people have ignored that direction.
I should stick to the Word Association Thread until I can contribute more fully.

No worries CCJ, that's quite understandable.
Perhaps you'd now consider voting, if for no other reason than to make the poll a bit less of 'a mockery'.

Al, all of the above is true. He's still nowhere near the worst striker on that list though! Cost 2.2m. Made well over 100 appearances. No sign of improvement, piss poor mpg. In which context voting for him makes more sense than many of the other geniuses on the list, several of whom made <10 appearances for us.

Just to clarify, I haven’t voted politically or as any sort of rant. I think he’s shit and we play with max 10 men too often. Yes, there are players on the list as bad - respect the opinions that say worse - but here’s been here too long and has far too many excuses made for him about service. I posted somewhere ages ago that no pro player can really be called shit but when I played I could have done what Dykes does and I was shit, nowhere near good enough.

dykes was our worst player when we were top of the league. he's still one of our worst players now when we're near the bottom.
for me its his longevity at the club, mostly piss poor performances and inability to lead the line that puts him above the other candidates who played vastly fewer games than him.
i don't think people are lashing out during our god awful run as people have been saying the same stuff about dykes for years.
