Wouldn't mind Gallen myself. Huge step up from Les in my opinion. Hasn't relied on his playing career to get to DoF level. In the past Charlton had a very good reputation for selling players, what players has Gallen and his assembled coaching staff produced recently?Theres an advert on their official website advocating the players brought through their academy that went on to bigger things many years ago, now they run a lottery for fans to help pay for their Academy costs. With the new home ruling regarding relaxing regs on foreign players granted work permits a more progressive route would be to look at Scandinavian candidates. That would be my first question too. Proof is in the pudding. Any QPR connection should be totally irrelevant.

Biggest question I have is the timing. Could have done this a month ago, couldn't we?

Have to say I've not been that impressed with some of Gallen's utterings on social media/video/podcasts etc.
I retract that - didn't read back far enough in the thread and assumed it was Kevin Gallen.

If how well the DoF performed in front of TV cameras was an important part of the criteria, we wouldn't have sacked Les.

Charlie is definitely talking about us, not Swindon. Gallen is nailed on I think. will have worked under Gallen as coach with Ramsey

The timing of Mark Warbourton resigning Could be fundemental Coincidence I think. My initial thoughts when Warburton quit West Ham and Les was sacked on the same morning was it was clearly Warburton for DoF. Apparently not one of our top 2 choices though. Could also be a done deal though possible I dont believe in coincidence any more No smoke without fire been caught to many times

Might be wrong but the timing is not to be ignored cheap option as no compo, you already know about him and ethos ftom time here, DOFish role previously, knows the club and type of character/understanding suited to this type of role. It would make sense

That would be absolutely PERFECT for us - pay Charlton half a million compensation, bring Gallen over to us - and then sack him after Christmas. That's QPR all the way...

would absolutely prefer warbs over the other contenders but i don't know whether he could work with gaz.
i feel like it'll be gallen which isn't the worst thing tbh. charlton are like the league 1 version of us but have even worse owners

Will be an identical scenario with Wild Thing following a decade at WW! Not only do we fuck up our club, but other people's safe careers too 😂

Kenny Jackett, Luke Dowling along with Steve Gallen now being linked according to WLS.
Dowling looks to have had a very checkered career with some badly run clubs in Watford, Forest and West Brom.

We're being linked with a few names possibly because they're all being interviewed - which in itself is a good thing as all options should be kept on the table. And in that I would include the option of no DoF at all!

Can understand the owners wanting to make overall judgement on key personnel but history tells us those decisions are poorly thought out or not followed through.
Would like them to appoint somebody with proven previous success at Director level meaning the owners cease with the backseat driving, either as DOF or with Chairman responsibilities.

I don't see how Warbs and Ainsworth collaborate as a DoF and Manager combo. Different footballing ethos altogether.

If the clubs owners decide to bring in a proper experienced qualified DOF then what manager currently in place should be of a relatively small consideration.

Maybe I’ve not paid enough attention, but to me it seems that managers set the style, the tactics, motivate the players…. they get the glory or carry the can.
Can’t think of one club where a DoF has received plaudits for a club’s success.
Not saying that hasn’t happened, but just that I couldn’t name a club where it has…
And if a DoF lays down the law, then surely a new incoming at QPR puts Ainsworth at risk, if he doesn’t play the DoF’s way?
I’m thinking more and more that a DoF is an added distraction and complication.

Ainsworth is already at risk and he knows it Due to his playing style this adds to his pressure
Glad Les has gone awful
We can now hopefully move forward Need a good appointment Then sort the squad we can then go from a shit Club to a good club with new acadamy Right appointments in right places transforms Things very quickly in football I would just be happy with a top ten club With new training ground atm Realistic benchmark for Qpr nothing more atm Has to be the aim it is very possible if You get the right players in this season Theres some major teams in the championship

Hope the club does it's due diligence to find the right person for the job and not just go for the easy option of Gallen, who imo doesn't seem upto much going by Charlton's past few years. Whoever gets the job, first thing they should do is get rid of Ainsworth.
