Hope the club does it's due diligence to find the right person for the job and not just go for the easy option of Gallen, who imo doesn't seem upto much going by Charlton's past few years. Whoever gets the job, first thing they should do is get rid of Ainsworth. to be fair to gallen he's working under some terrible owners who have completely hamstrung the club. he's probably actually overachieving given the circumstances but prior to the takeover he was doing a decent job

It's a big world out there though and the net can be cast far and wide with intelligent and skilled recruitment. With the usual caveat: Assuming a DoF is even needed at all for a club of our size & budget, and which the poll indicates we're divided over

Is Webber the fella that quit Norwich? Won't be him. Bloke's a trouble maker and didn't make many friends at the club during his short stint as Head Scout here.

Don't really get the negative comments with regards to Gallen myself. Cares about the club, knows the landscape and infrastructure here well. Is on good terms with the key figures at the club. Has 5 or 6 years experience in a similar role at a club with similar financial constraints as us. Won't break the bank or require significant financial backing. The only real negative I can see is the perceived lack of ambition in hiring someone from a League 1 club, but in all honesty, we need to get used to that. We are not in a position to chuck money around.

I saw a few tweets from Dave Mac saying Webber is trouble we don’t need.
He said we need somebody like Ferdinand that will work quietly in the background and take flak.
Does that entail the owners making umpteen poor managerial decisions and hiding behind the spineless numpty that accepts the job.
If true what a shit show this club has become.

And I still feel the same about Ainsworth Sparks. Kept us up by hook or by crook which is something I don't think would have happened had we carried on with Critchley.

Webber will be looking at bigger things than our circus & wouldn't be a puppet for the owners so can't see that one happening.
There must be so many Dof's about, surely Qpr can cast their net far and wide instead of the same old fascination of bringing people in who have been at the club before.
We need a complete overhaul and imo hope we can do better than Gallen.

The whole thing needs a sort out and he’s not the one to do it so it’s got to be a DOF. Depends who they get for others to go with Les.

Al, I think the crux of the problem is the board are not capable of running the club without the security of a DoF between them and the Manager.
The only guy in the boardroom I'd have any confidence in to run the club is Amit and even that's a stretch. I doubt he's keen to be any more hands on that he is already anyway. Plus it wouldn't make sense as the Mittals stake in the club is virtually non-existent these days.
A DoF is invevitable as long as the current regime are in place. Probably beyond that too to be fair. The overwhelming majority of professional clubs have one these days.

i'd still much rather warbs as DOF as i have a lot more faith in him for the future than gallen, no disrespect to him. gallen and ainsworth seem like a good match for the short term but if gaz gets sacked then what?
i feel like warbs would have a clearer philosophy than gallen when it comes to signings, playstyle and the whole footballing side of things. we know that the club needs a bit of a gutting and idk if SG is the one to really bring that to the club.

I'll add that I think we can trim a bit more fat off the leadership team. If it is Gallen we go for I'd argue that Ramsey could go too. As capable as I'm sure he is, he's part of the old regime, he's likely on a hefty package and a lot of what he does could be absorbed into Gallen's remit.
Gallen as DoF, Hoos to manage the finances, Ainsworth as Manager and a few extra additions into the 1st team coaching set-up could be how it's looks next season. Unlikely to be the most attractive football but I'd have confidence in that set-up to steady the ship and keep us clear of relegation if we can bring the right players in.

I'm sure Warburton would be interested in the role. Whether we feel the same remains to be seen. I'm also not sure his face fits at the club anymore. Heard rumours that he ruffled a few feathers behind the scenes, particularly in his last season here as Manager.

I’d still like to see the back of Hoos in favour of someone more innovative and motivated instead of him just managing the status quo - which is all he seems to do. Surely our businessmen owners can decide what we can and can’t afford from options put to them.

We definitely need a finance guy in there somewhere Al. And as much as I think Hoos is a bit of a tool, he is pretty astute when it comes to football finance.
I personally can't see him going anywhere at this moment in time. Maybe a year or 2 down the line. Who knows though. I do think there may be a few more changes before the season starts.

Surely most of the other 13 sides have someone doing a similar role with a slightly different job title? Unless a club has a really hands-on Chairman, it's virtually impossible to run a club without Directors these days. The football industry has become too complex. Managers simply don't have the time to run the playing side and the business side like they would have 20 years ago and before.
