Our problem is sticking the ball in the net whichever style we play. Armstrong misses from a yard out and Donkey couldn’t hit the away END on Saturday. But we don’t need a striker.

Know this is mental
But our most successful time last time
Was Warbortons 4-3-3
We destroyed everybody
We attacked the top teams to shit
It was awsome

Personally don't care what style of football we play as long as it gets us putting the ball in the net and starting to get points on the board.

i'm looking forward to see how the team develops under marti. i don't expect much in his first game but even so i imagine we'll see glimpses and a much more different style.
its not like we can't play a more attractive possession based style either as we have been doing it for years with mcclaren, warbs and the eel and most of the players in the side are still left over from those times. even the players we've signed have played in styles similar to that imo. cook played in a freeflowing bournemouth team, colback used to be called the ginger pirlo, fox was originally a LB and looks decent enough on the ball etc.
with everyone fit and avaliable i wouldn't mind seeing us line up like:
begovic cannon cook JCS paal field dozzell colback willock armstrong chair
theres a few little more adventurous tweaks here and there. smyth/kolli for armstrong, kakay for colback etc. marti likes people comfortable on the ball who can also work hard for the team and keep the ball on the ground. dykes coming on for the last 30 minutes when everyones a bit tired could also get the best out of him too.
i think we'll see a lot of off the ball movement which is something we've REALLY been shit at recently. no one makes themselves avaliable for a pass or tries to open up space for others to step into. really looking forward to it though!

Personally I am looking forward to the new manager being biased I think Henry will has a chance with the new manager as he wants to play out for the back and there is not many centre backs who are as good as this as Henry but he can defend as well can’t wait

Interesting that the data in the link actually suggests that conventional FBs have been more successful in the prem this term. He definition of conventional FBs does allow for them arriving late and wide, kind of WBs lite. Interesting also that Arsenal - who aren't having a bad season - have been using two out and out wingers, kind of.

football evolves and adapts all the time, its quite mental really lol. you think back in the day at least in england it was variations of the classic 442 or a 424 with inside forwards, heck sometimes you had 1342 with the 1 being a sweeper in more possession based styles.
over the past 15 years though football has undergone many different changes, formations and styles of play. 442 is seen as outdated (although watch any game and teams often resort to a 442 when defending). one day football will cycle back around and go back to using a 442 again. leicester won the title largely playing a solid counterattacking 442.

You see two lines of 4 in most games it’s just that many defenders are better footballers these days so it doesn’t notice as much.

Last para Chair puts that to bed to long on the ball move it quicker. Very rare for a midfielder to bust a gut to get in the box also.

Paal and Cannon look to be playing well within themselves in this formation, I would like to see much more from them both when considering the type of clubs they’ve played for previously.

First glance I read this as, 'Paal and Cannon look to be playing well with themselves’...
