I feel this subject warrants its own thread. I for one want us to play a way which makes us hard to beat. As it has been a problem for so long time now, too much space between midfield and defence is probably what I fear the most.

i don't think it'll be as bad as what some people feel. it'll be a lot different from the warbs/beale era's but i reckon it'll be much more hard working and structured with a few flair players thrown in.

Another issue we need to address is defending from the front.

Personally an expecting dross with a lot of long balls 'into channels' and plenty of bypassing the midfield and in the vast majority of games having the minority of possession.
Naturally, I hope Ainsworth proves me wrong, but time will tell.

Good to see that they've started the preseason working on ways of making our forwards more mobile - looked petty effective...

Ainsworth is incapable of implementing any other style than his hoofball dross. Going to be the ugliest season to watch in many a year.

Yep, when winning games you can get away with almost anything (ie Burnley & Stoke away...). But when not winning games & having to watch dross, the natives will soon turn.

Probably why we’ve moved first game. We need grass to grow longer in the corners to slow ball down for the long punts Wimbledonstylee

4-5-1 Points Points Points Farking Solid That wont work General if Dykes is the 1. He just gets totally isolated, not helped by Gareth's mf unit being tethered to our arse end. Also big defenders tend to own him like a bitch, you have to be very dark arts and he just hasnt got a clue. Garethball has to step up to the plate otherwise we're fucked.

Are we all being bit to negative towards Gareth and his proposed style.
He might surprise us start of season by mixing it up and playing a little bit.
I’m fearing the worst but are we going in to early on what he could produce.

Until he shows us something better (hopefully...) what else can we expect?

Are we all being bit to negative towards Gareth and his proposed style. Very possibly! I'm reserving judgement til I've seen a few games. I think that's only fair despite all of the many warning signs.

I’m fearing the worst but are we going in to early on what he could produce. i think we'll probably try to play like luton did last season or barnsley a few years back. high intensity, lots of pressing/work ethic and a direct style of play with tough tackles and an emphasis on set plays. i don't think it will be awful by any means but it won't be anything like we've had under previous managers. a front 3 of smyth/richards, dykes and armstrong doesn't seem all bad to me tbh assuming smyth can step up and armstrong is ready for regular football. chair and willock will likely be off and we'll probably reinvest that in the midfield on a box to box player, center back, right back and a set piece specialist. who knows. some players like kakay or even dozzell could do well next season. i wouldn't even mind seeing kakay playing further forward or in midfield tbh.

They can bounce the ball off the moon so far as I care if we win matches and score more than four facking second half goals up the Loft all season.

I’m still clinging to hope that something good will come out of all this. Chair and Willock still here so maybe no one has been in for either. A new regime at Heston might get Willock fit. CB cover is a worry with the Glass man unlikely to play three in a row😁.

As long as we score more than 4 goals in front of the loft this season then the style of play is not important. Having said that I would be shocked if we played like we did under Warburton or Beale
