No one was saying Lumley was shit last season, in fact some were even suggesting prem bids would come in for him. A bit over the top, he's no prem keeper.... certainly not now so hardly 'an asset that's been developed'.

Lumley's throwing has always been better than his kicking. Being that tall so his brain being closer to his arms than feet, that kinda makes sense

He should be told to throw rather than "kick" a pass then..

If your not good enough your not good enough regardless what efforts to support or management you have. We love giving our players an excuse and a way out!!! Possibly part of the reason why we have soft centre You rated Lumley like everyone else, Warburton has done him no favours asking him to play football. Stick to keeping the ball out of the net. yep and watched him longer and he’s full of flaws other, then shot stopping, has few attributes needed be solid keeper. All the same mistakes as Rob Green but younger!!!! Been there done that and it was not fun Not good enough but keep kidding yourself he is

Out of interest was playing out the reason for him fumbling fourth and having weak wrists for the third??? What part did him being unable to pass play with those goals?

No dispute there 73 and I feel for him as he seems a good genuine guy but he’s not up to it
Think club could do him favour and take him out the limelight as he seems to do loads of the club videos as he appears bit of a joker. Let him concentrate on his football

Lumley is also way too slow at decision making. So many times he has players free to throw out to but exhibits a level of “dither and delay” that would make Parliament cringe.
I can only assume that part of the reason for this is the strange way both him and his defenders seem to have interpreted whatever it is Warburton seems to be asking of them. Pretty sure nobody on here, or in general across the fan base wants him or anyone to simply be lumping the ball aimlessly upfield in the general direction of Hugill, (when he’s not on the bench in favour of another ineffective midfielder). However, the percentage of times that playing out through the defenders puts our midfielders in positions to threaten, or feed the strikers, is extremely low.
What I see more often than not seems to be a bit of fannying around across the back, until one of them has been played into such a dodgy position that they have no choice but to hoof it anyway, or simply a badly misplaced pass gifting possession to the opponents.
We need to move the ball forwards much faster than we do. It infuriates me each time yet another cross field pass, played on the floor, ends up arriving behind the intended recipient, ensuring he has to check his run in order to go back and get it.
More than happy for us to try quick incisive passing in the oppositions half, accepting that it will come to nothing as often as create an opening. But for crying out loud, we need to take the utmost care of the ball when we have it in our half. The opposition won’t score if we have the ball. And it’s also quite difficult from their own half. At least they are required to create something for themselves, rather than simply accepting the presents we keep giving them.
Still, I’m sure the penny will drop soon. (Hopefully nobody quotes the last bit back to me in April 😂)

Westy. He was never as bad as this and long term this genius we have in charge could ruin the lad for years to come.

People are making out his kicking is an issue this season like its new thing but it’s always been an issue but people forgetting that or are choosing to ignore to suit view

Westy. I agree his kicking has always been iffy but he was a half decent keeper on the up. Now he looks like someone who is gone at the game and I for one cannot see how that will change in the current system.

Good shot stopper I would agree with that 73 But his form plummeted last season after the boot in the face at Villa and he was, if were honest, costing us goals second half of last season. He’s not been sane since villa. Think we’re in danger of making him out to be better then he ever was. Keeper with no short game, no long game and no game when the ball is dead and There is no pressure on the ball is a liability. Don’t come for ball, don’t save pens and don’t command his box and is not even quick disturbing the ball. Other then being good shot stopper what else does he bring to the role? Think he would be blinding number 2 to dip in and out but a number 1 he is not the more I see him

Watched him last night play very well and showed us exactly what we lost when he moved on. Emphasised to me why we need to sign an experienced keeper for next season.

Smithies just looked in total control and calm and breeds confidence in defence Class act and agree seems calm and in control all the time. Made a world class save from Kamara onto the post as well. Re affirms my opinion of getting an experienced keeper in to help Dieng, Kelly and Lumley assuming all are there next season.

That's a shame. Very very good keeper imo, thought he was brilliant for us. Good luck to him.

shame tbh, cracking keeper and the best one of my lifetime for us alongside paddy kenny.
should have been an option for england at tournaments just for his penalty saving ability, bloke literally has one of the best penalty save % in the world.

Best keeper we’ve had for the last 10-15 years no? Even though it was a relatively short spell, he was quality.
