Dykes is best suited on the bench from now on. Sub for Armstrong or Frey. I know I’m alone in thinking he did alright today.

If a move breaks down he gives up. Chair battles back.

Best game Colback has had for us I reckon. Bust a gut to cover a break first half. Always busy supporting. Reckon him and Field together not might be a good pairing. I honestly thought Colback was our most ineffective player today Alan. Lost count the number of the times I saw him stationary or at walking pace when we held possession close by him in MF instead of moving into space to receive a pass. He was also directly responsible for a weak challenge in our penalty area resulting in their goal.

But for ineffective look no further than Willock today.

Was chalk and cheese compared to his ‘performances’ as a striker. agreed tbh. he's much better suited to this joelinton kind of role. even without the assist sincs did more uptop than dykes has done in his past 10 games as a CF. he should have scored with all the chances he had but at least there's a player there. frey looked way off the pace when he came on which is understandable given its been 9 or so months since he last played. there's a striker in there for sure but he needs some bedding in and time in the reserves before we can rely on him to lead the line.

Understandably the attention is on the attacking and midfield players, especially the new ones, but arguably the single biggest turn-around for us has been that we are able to play Cook and Clarke Salter for a run of games. When you are conceding a bit less than a goal a game as we have of late it means we are always in games. They say good managers are lucky managers and any of our recent managers would all have killed to have that option. Really important they stay fit.

I thought his first half performance was pretty good in general, he never gave the ball away once until just before being subbed. Easy for me to sound like I’m making excuses for him but if you want a possible game changer and still go with Willock in a relegation fight you don’t want him wasting energy tracking back the opposing full back, that should be the job of one of our 3 predominantly defensively minded MF players Marti insists on playing.

How refreshing to see one of our midfielders make a run into the box and even more pleasing was the quality of the finish.

I thought Willock was ok he’s played a lot worse than that. Had the beating of his man and he wandered about pitch to get involved.
Willock to be effective needs the ball but we tend to play the ball to chair on opposite side which kind of takes him out the game, that’s why it worked so well under Warburton when they played beside and off each other as they linked up and were both always involved. Playing them apart kind of dilutes both of their powers as together they click.
He does look laboured getting back which is frustrating in a relegation battle. He runs in the direction of the player he needs to close without breaking sweat to actually get there and effect the player on the ball.

Agree with you about Willock way better linking with Chair on left and surprising none of the coaches have suggested it to Marti. But going to be difficult to achieve that with Hodge in the team, assuming he likes to play centrally as it gives us no one on the right.

Frey has sane build and movement as Zamora He can’t run. Nothing to do with fitness, he looks ridiculous. Just hope he’s a fox in the box. When he went into full sprint mode, I actually laughed out loud. He really does not know how to use his legs lol. I love him though, think he will be great in and around the box. Bet he won’t bottle good chances like that clown who has been demoted to midfield and soon to be permanently on the bench.

Thought he was decent 1st half. Faded 2nd half and came off at the right time.

Fox at least is fit again and could slot in well too imo.

Fully agree with you there re Willock, Sparks, particularly in the first half.

Cannon Cook JCS Paal
Hayden Colback
Willock Chair Hodge

Frey I wouldn’t be so quick to bench Armstrong, think the lad is improving week on week.
