Cue pundits discussing whether a player was wrongly given offside because of a trailing fingertip preventing clear daylight.

I actually agree with this. Clear daylight between players = offside. None = onside. Plain and clear and stops all this lines bollox and goals being ruled out for someone's nose being too long. in line always was onside before they started tinkering so it’s just going back to the old law really

As always it takes years of tinkering to end up concluding that the old way was best after all.

there will still be cock ups as there always is. be interesting to see how the game changes though with these new rules. we'll likely see shorter and more pacey CBs.

Absolutely ludicrous.
A line will always have to be drawn, wherever it is, so there will continue to be the same number of mistakes and same level of uproar/outrage as there has always been.
The only way to get over that is for players to wear some kind of tech device or for there to be some sort of overhead scanning/AI system which can scan/read player positions.
Is the offside law even necessary? We'd see a lot more goals without it...

Is inline not onside in current laws?

Is inline not onside in current laws? Yes but a toecap offside was ‘level’ before VAR. no way could a lino be so accurate so now saying ‘clear daylight’ is pretty much the old law.

Fair point suppose old way of officiating allowed human error but VAR allows laws to be implemented as they are written. On that basis the problem is not VAR but how the law is written.
It is frustrating waiting for some outcomes apparently took 6mins for one decision at weekend.
