that’s still interpretation. Old law was if anyone was off it was offside even if they were stood by corner flag as it was last man. Surely current law better than that. I'm not sure that it is. At least with the old law everyone knew where they stood... I'll get my coat. that’s the point I’m making with Al just say it’s offside but then fans can’t moan if someone is other side of pitch offside and a goal is chalked off. It is what it is get on with it. IMO current law better then that.

Boil it down and the only real difference between old and new seems to be that you can now be offside in a move to gain an advantage and if you don’t play the ball until you are back onside it won’t matter.

Disagree my recollection was offside was offside regardless of where you were on pitch interfering or not no grey area. If any player was off it was given.

Yes, was watching with loads of Dutch. I said would be disallowed as you can’t be standing next to keeper and not be distracting him even though he was never saving it. Just get back to offside is offside - no debate. Did say that.

People used to moan about old Rule too Al when goals chalked off for player not even being in the box but by laws in offside position. Perhaps it’s easier to just take position of if anyone is off it’s off but the arguments will just be reversed. Not sure there is a perfect solution. I'd do two things. 1) you are only off if there is clear daylight between you and the defender. None of this big toe / little finger in front nonsense. 2) anyone, anywhere in an offside position should be deemed to be offside, irrespective of whether or not they are interfering with play. Clear and simple. +1

Current offside law is way better than the old one. I say it as a linesman.

All the best to Varga of Hungary. Didn't see what happened to him but the aftermath was very worrying indeed.

I'm packing my Hungary shirt away.It looks nice alongside the other 192 shirts that might come in handy when Scotland emerge from the swamp in 10 years or so.

I wonder if Ainsworth is an advisor to Hungary LOL. Sit back tight and rely on the breaks....reminded me of some of his shock victories (e.g Burnley away). Dreadful game though, it needed Scotland to score first, and that never looked likely despite all the possession. I think that the 'they missed Dykes' narrative actually helps build him up into something he is not... prolific.

Watched several times in slow mo and the Scotland man had hold of the defenders shirt for ages before they both went down. Anyway Scotland got what they deserve and so pleased for Clarke

Would have liked to have seen Scotland go through, but that performance - the last 15 minutes aside - was dire. Almost like a reverse Gareth Southgate, where England played well for 15 minutes, scored, and then sat back and did eff-all for the rest of the game. If only the Jocks had Lyndon to lead the line and put all those half-chances away...

Armstrong was offside, so no penalty anyway. Tbf we wondered if he was on at the time, comms as per didn't even mention it. Meaning that for the second time in 48 hours the majority of 'analysts' got a big call wrong, despite having multiple review options.

I think the foul contact was made before any meaningful shirt pulling. Offside - don't think it was. Think the Jocks should have had a pen. ![](https://i.imgur.com/pTnDbpL.jpg)

the jock was about at least4 ft away from ball playing grind me games Offside - don't think it was. Been debating the offski laws on this very thread, and the implementation of the daylight clause would have settled this conclusively. He would have been on. As things stand however, you can be offside as long as " any part of the body " is deemed in front. It's madness, because unless you have a camera on both sides at exactly 90 degrees and at the correct height you literally can't tell. Unsurprisingly, the technology doesn't cater for this. Drawing straight lines utilising poor camera angles is nonsensical, but thats what you get. If they modified the laws, we wouldn't have to put up with this bollox every weekend.

Anyone buying this ‘too tired to press’ shit? Look at the pace of other games - are we really so much less fit or is it just Southgate stifling the movement with his negativity? Look at CR7, Modric and someone like Pepe, who is 103…….not exactly looking for their bed are they.

38 now. What a career he's had. Lost count of the amount of Euros and World Cups he's played at, and still playing at the highest level for Real. Incredible.
