Cook & JCS have been absolutely outstanding for us havent they. Chuck in Dunne turning into Cafu reincarnated and it's a real comfort to be able to watch us play without shitting our pants every time the opposition get even a sniff of an attack.

I’m going to stop reading this thread or I’m going to explode. Looking at that article saying he was instrumental in getting Forest up,IRC he didn’t play much in that season they went up and the only game I saw with him playing he cost them 2 points by conceding a needless pen in the last min. Take a good look look at the size of his beer belly too. Not aged well lol

cook looks like he should be working as a roofer and shooting up lines on the boards alongside apprentices. what a revelation though. love him, he comes across as the kind of player who'll play in the championship deep into his 30s.

Yep, absolutely the right decision. Wouldn't have been unhappy with Field either but Cook is a born leader.

Robin Dubois mentioned David Webb (not the ref) on a separate thread. There may not be a ton of RFI posters who saw him play back in the 70s on that magical team, but Steve Cook does remind me of his style of play.

Yeap I can see the comparison - what a pairing they would have made. Dave was more skilful on the ball and with distribution than many gave him credit for, never missed a header, but also had a (justified at times) "hard man' reputation. He took no prisoners and if it was a choice for putting a centre forward into the third row of the South Africa road stand or letting them have a shot on goal the Stand would be the choice. That's a bit of an exaggeration but he definitely was a hard man and if he went down injured you knew it was genuine. Probably my favourite CB of all time - and a great sense of humour

I had the privilege of meeting him outside of a football setting in the mid-70s. A gentle and very funny man.
