Don't think there is any doubt about that from what we've seen so far tonight. If he can stand up and get into a kit then good to go. On one leg touching his nose.

Anyone remember his old man? Played for Watford, Brentford and Gillingham.

So we help develop Newcastle's right back. One of our biggest battlers and team motivators (Dunne) is pushed to the reserves. We are paying Santos to be third choice right back (admittedly with the odd game probably playing further forward). Meanwhile we have one fit left back, he is running down his contract, and the manager has gone on record saying we aren't going to pick players who are not signed up for the long term. Confused? You can be supporting Queens Park Rangers. The other transfers all look like decent business - or you can at least see the logic behind them - so overall think we have had a very good window. But as someone else commented, this is the one transfer that leaves me scratching my head. Of course we previously dropped a decent right back into the reserves who later got a Premier League winners medal - in order to accommodate a young Premier League right back on loan. His name was Kyle Walker and he was a different class even then, so what do I know? Maybe it will turn out to be an inspired move... Personally thought we needed another right back. The Manager has said that Santos needs a bit of development before he's ready for the first team. I don't think that came as a surprise to anyone who saw him pre-season. As for Dunne, I like him, good honest player, but he's not a full back. He's done bloody well there on the whole but I do think as the season goes on we'll be happy to have another option. Good point on the left back scenario. We do really only have Paal. JCS can play there pretty comfortably but we are definitely a little thin and reliant on a player that perhaps has his eyes on a move elsewhere. That being said Paal has been bloody good the last 2 games having looked decidedly out of sorts opening day.

Maybe Marty wants to go to three at the back? Dunne, Cook and JCS. But never had the players to play wingback before?

Mmmmm nowt to do with JCS leaving..
Cannon goes by mutual consent and we're short in defence....
Seems reasonable to me
Also wonder if Dyke's sale was to keep within FFP

Maybe Marty wants to go to three at the back? Dunne, Cook and JCS. But never had the players to play wingback before? Whether he wants to or not, at some point in the season that will be the right move, and he needs to be ready for plan B. Being ready to go 2 up top is another contingency he needs to prepare for. I really like his favoured set up, I like the AMFs arriving in numbers, but if you want to play high press having two up there can ease the workload for MF. May never need to do it, but prep is everything, as I'm convinced he knows. On the Dykes sold as an FFP manoeuvre, sure it helped but Dykes has felt like he was gone for a long time. Also the FFP thing assumes we got paid for him

Ashby what a poor player. I don’t recall him touching the ball in defence or attack. Why did we bring him in he improves nothing.

Am prepared to bet with anyone on here that when his contract with Newcastle expires the best he will get is a league one club but quite possibly league 2. Did we not actually watch him? Or did we think because he is at Newcastle he must be good? If Nourry ever gave interviews be interesting to ask how signing him rather than Hayden is working for him

Thought he was shit the first time he played and put it down to new team, surroundings etc.
The more I see him the more I realise he's really fucking bad.
Fuck him off back to the geordies.
Again, this bloody RB issue is just ridiculous.

Again, this bloody RB issue is just ridiculous. Honestly don’t think we had a right back issue. As Acton said in another thread, the squad needed a few shrewd additions not a full new team. Dunne was found out by two or three hot wingers but overall was a very big factor in our survival. The problem is JCS (and Morrison) being unfit so Dunne has had to move to centre half where he just isn’t reliable.

We've defo got a RB issue as we don't have a natural RB with ability.
That's a fact.
