Really frustrating night.
All in all I thought we played really well with a weakened side against a very strong Premier League side but two poxy annoying goals and individual mistakes cost us.
All in all happy with how the lads played tonight.

I never thought we could surpass the worst signing of our existence, but whoever identified that joke of a striker for us tonight, deserves a farking good kicking.
The wanker spent the whole 90 mins jogging on his toes.

Can’t moan about that effort. They put in a shift and never gave in.
Varane shows promise but someone has to tell him to pass forwards. Disappointed Saito don’t seem to be able to beat his man and get ball in feels like he’s Smyth on opposite flank.
Hopefully Cook, Field and Paal come through unscathed as need them Saturday.
Like look of Lloyd always busy and don’t give defence time to breath.
More positives than negatives.

I wouldn't give up on Celar just yet. Only played 163 minutes of championship football, and a couple of cup games. Far too early to write him off, imo.

Narr, I'm not having that. What's with all this, we played well, premiership opposition, decent result nonsense? If Marti had put out the best 11 we could have won that. I'm really pissed off about it. A totally wasted opportunity.
As for the game, well, we were very poor first half and it was amazing we didn't concede more. I actually don't know how Palace conspired not to score more goals. Madsen was fucking useless for the entire time he was on the pitch. I don't think he made a single tackle, all his passing was backwards and he almost gifted Palace a couple of goals with two terrible passes, one a real hospital ball to Cook. On this showing and v Weds, I've got to say I am not impressed. Varane, by contrast, was excellent. He did pass forwards (yes he did, I was there, I was focused on him), he intercepted and broke up attacks, he tackled, and I think he misplaced only one pass all night. I really think he's a talent and will only get better. So on that basis, our recruitment policy has found one rough diamond and one dud.
Saito tried, but he's just too lightweight and his final ball often lets him down. Field was a strange choice to partner Cook when Dunne was available, but he did ok. EDB was, however, as bad as Madsen and I'm not surprised he was subbed for the second half, but really Madsen should have been too. And then there's Celar. I was really willing to cut this bloke plenty of slack, but he's as bad a striker as our long list of previous shit incumbents. I wouldn't be surprised if he never scored for us, should he ever feature again. That's another black mark against the recruitment policy. Lloyd was at least active and up for it when he came on, but he's just not a quality stiker. So that means we've only got Frey, and he isn't exactly Championship class either.
But bottom line, what was Marti fucking playing at, putting out a weakened side? Why on earth shouldn't we try our best to win a cup game FFS?

Dixon Bonner yet again was by far the worst player on the pitch and now needs binning. Ashbee wanted to haul back Eze when he got the ball on the half way line but had been booked so backed off. I am going to be in the minority but I think Celar will come good and I thought Varane played his best game for us and gives us legs and someone who can tackke and cover the ground well.

Can't agree Hubble. Thought there were more positives than negatives myself. Think we can be pretty proud of that performance, especially the second half. Against a Prem team too, if we had just rolled over the score wouldn't have been 2-1 but 3/4/5-0, and then I'd probably side with you.
But then, I personally couldn't give a stuff about the cup, so we have different perspectives of it. Glorified friendly imo. I'm glad he saved our better players for Millwall.
