So far this season conceded seven and four of them were our own doing from stupid play.
Two pens from Barbet, stupid throw at Bristol and tonight criminally overhit corner
Add the fact we struggle to create/take chances and our backs are going to be up against the wall
Mistakes in attack and defence are killing us at the current time we’re punished everytime

You need to be tight at the back and do the basics well week in week out but unfortunately we do not and totally agree a long hard season will be had unless we address this ASAP.

We jest at Furlong. Same as Ned they take so many bullets but you see their influence when you can no longer pick em

No leader at the back as shown for the 3rd goal tonight and the 2nd one on Saturday. Lumley cannot be far away from being canned.

We lost today because of stupidity. Kane may be a better footballer than Furlong, but I think Furlong was the better defender. With Kane bombing forward, Manning positionally woeful and Barbet trying to play too much football we look so fragile at the back. And we play with such a high line. Its bloody risky when neither of your centre halves have much pace. If we took our chances we might start winning games 3-2 or 4-3. A better idea however would be to try to get back to doing the basics properly at the back!

Barbet is very clumsy.

McClaren attempted this playing out from the back approach at the start of last season but soon came a cropper, so he went back to basics and tightened up defensively.
Are we starting to see similarities to that? And might we end up having to do the same again?
We were supposed to have better footballers this season to play this possession-based building-from-the-back style...

I like the way we play. Nice attacking football and players working hard. Unfortunately BOS as goof as he is, will never score a goal. Eze, even better, is also quite helpless in front of goal. Nevertheless I would like us to keep on playing this attacking football even if we lose more than we win. Of course we need to tighten our defence, but please, do not chance the way we play.

And you can't compare McLarens slow playing from the back style with the attacking energy we have now.

You can Timmy as both are costing us points, We do not have the pace to play the high line and we have brought in a centre half who cannot defend and is caught the wrong side far too often. Cannot defend like we are and hope to win games.

We lost today because of stupidity. I’m making point Furlong and bidwell to that fact were criticised for allegedly backing off players and classed as bad defenders because of this. Well if you think they backed off look at Manning as he’s in full Italian retreat, he’s nowhere near his man but no one has picked him up like the two above, actually quite the opposite he’s getting plaudits

Granted he is not being helped by the fact that the left sided centre back is equally poor defensively and unless that is sorted cheap goals and basic mistakes will happen game after game.

Probably his worst this season.

Not just yesterday lots of goals this season have come in from the left. Bristol’s first and stokes cause he don’t close his man.
I’m just moaning and in foul mood so will try be but more upbeat

Wallace if the same player will improve the left back situation and was a very good attacking outlet for Rangers.

Simple pass and move and no one came over to cover the space which was just lazy.

That should not be the benchmark it should be cold hard facts that the left side of our back four is weak and needs addressing. Two pens conceded by the same player in 2 home games tell you that much

Can we just concentrate on the negatives and how bad most of our players are? I am trying to forget just how much I enjoyed watching us last night.

He may well be but we haven't seen enough of Kane yet to judge. (well I haven't)

I like what I see of Kane. Quieter yesterday then I thought he would be given how’s hes looked off the bench but there is a player in him
Shame he never scored that goal at the end

Not happily no, but I honestly believe if we carry on as we are we will lose a lot of games but we won't get relegated. I still think 15th -16th is a realistic expectation for this team. Swansea are currently second and play fast attractive football. We will run into a lot more who won't and that is where we will pick up points. I have seen us get relegated many time since I began watching in the 66-67 season and this team doesn't feel like one of those teams but if we end up in League 1 I am certainly not going to cancel my season ticket. We used to sing a song a few years ago "Whatever the season, we'll follow our team..." that still applies to me, and will until I become too infirm to cope with all the travelling to games.
